Surgical Medical Assistant
Valley Dermatology Associates – Yakima, WA
Valley Dermatology Associates is looking for an experienced, dependable, and patient-focused Surgical Medical Assistant to join our growing dermatology team.
This is a hands-on clinical position supporting our providers with Mohs surgery, excisions, biopsies, repairs, wound care, and other dermatologic procedures. We are looking for someone who is organized, comfortable in a fast-paced surgical environment, and committed to providing an excellent patient experience.
What You'll Do
Prepare patients and surgical rooms for Mohs, excisions, biopsies, repairs, and other procedures
Assist providers during surgical and dermatologic procedures
Prepare instruments, trays, medications, dressings, and supplies
Maintain sterile technique and follow infection-control and safety protocols
Clean, sterilize, inspect, and organize surgical instruments and equipment
Accurately document patient information and surgical care in the electronic medical record
Assist with specimen labeling, documentation, tracking, and pathology coordination
Assist with wound care, dressings, post-operative care, and suture removals
Provide patients with clear post-operative and wound-care instructions
Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked surgical rooms
Support efficient patient flow throughout the surgical day
Communicate effectively with providers, patients, and team members
Follow HIPAA, OSHA, sharps-safety, and universal precaution requirements
What We're Looking For
High school diploma or equivalent required
Medical Assistant education/certification or Surgical Technologist training preferred
Dermatology, Mohs, or surgical experience strongly preferred
Experience with sterile technique, surgical instruments, wound care, and surgical-site preparation
EMR experience preferred; training on our systems will be provided
Strong organization and attention to detail
Excellent communication and patient-care skills
Ability to remain calm and organized in a busy clinical environment
Dependable, punctual, and accountable
Team-oriented and open to coaching and continued learning

Pay: Based on experience and qualifications
