Position Overview:
The Design Engineer / Control Panel Designer is responsible for designing, drafting, and documenting electrical control panels that meet G6 Engineering’s standards for safety, accuracy, manufacturability, and field installation. This role produces detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials that guide fabrication, procurement, and installation teams. The Design Engineer / Control Panel Designer collaborates closely with engineering, procurement, and fabrication to ensure all designs are complete, UL508 compliant, and optimized for real‑world performance.
Key responsibilities:
Electrical Design & Drafting
Creates detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings.
Develops accurate bills of materials (BOMs) including components, wire types, breakers, relays, PLC hardware, and terminal blocks.
Ensures all designs comply with NEC, UL508A, and G6 Engineering standards.
Maintains version control and ensures all drawings are updated and distributed correctly.
Technical Problem Solving
Identifies design gaps, missing components, or wiring conflicts early and proposes solutions.
Works with engineers and fabrication to resolve installation or wiring challenges.
Adjusts designs based on customer requirements, site conditions, or engineering changes.
Cross-Department Collaboration
Coordinates procurement to ensure component lists are accurate, available, and compatible.
Coordinates fabrication to ensure panel layouts are manufacturable and efficient.
Supports service and installation by providing clarifications, updated drawings, and technical guidance.
Communicates clearly with internal teams to ensure design intent is understood and executed correctly.
Documentation & Standards
Maintains organized design files, templates, and documentation libraries.
Ensures all drawings include proper labeling, wire numbering, device tags, and revision history.
Quality Assurance
Reviews designs for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with electrical codes.
Conducts design checks to prevent missing components, wiring errors, or unclear instructions.
Participates in post‑project reviews to identify design improvements and reduce future rework.
Continuous Improvement
Recommends design enhancements that improve panel reliability, manufacturability, or serviceability.
Identifies recurring issues and collaborates with leadership to address root causes.Stays current on industry tools, electrical components, and control panel design methodologies.
Qualifications & Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent with some post-secondary education, certification, or training. Equivalent experience will be considered.
1+ years’ experience in industrial control panel design, electrical drafting, or industrial automation.
Knowledge of NEC, UL508A, and industrial electrical standards.
Proficiency in electrical CAD software (AutoCAD 2D).
Strong understanding of electrical control systems, wiring practices, and panel fabrication.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
Ability to manage multiple design tasks simultaneously in a fast‑moving environment.
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
