We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Billing Specialist to join our administrative team. The ideal candidate is organized, knowledgeable in healthcare billing, and committed to accuracy and excellent customer service.
Position Summary
The Part-Time Home Care Billing Specialist is responsible for managing billing processes, insurance coordination, accounts receivable, and administrative support to ensure timely reimbursement and efficient agency operations.
Essential Responsibilities
Submit insurance claims accurately and timely.
Investigate and resolve claim denials and payment discrepancies.
Perform accounts receivable follow-up to ensure prompt reimbursement.
Verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
Obtain and track client authorizations for services.
Maintain accurate documentation within the agency's Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Communicate with insurance companies, clients, referral sources, and agency staff regarding billing matters.
Prepare billing reports and maintain organized financial records.
Assist with data entry, filing, scanning, and other administrative office duties.
Ensure compliance with agency policies, HIPAA regulations, and applicable federal and Washington State requirements.
Prepare and submit medical claims using billing software, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and payer requirements
Review patient records, medical documentation, and coding details such as DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding to ensure accuracy
Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and authorizations prior to claim submission
Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through medical collections processes, resolving discrepancies promptly
Maintain detailed records of billing activities within EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems
Communicate effectively with insurance companies, healthcare providers, patients, and team members regarding billing inquiries or issues
Stay current with healthcare claims management policies, medical terminology updates, and changes in health insurance regulations
Skills
Strong knowledge of medical coding including DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding standards
Proficiency in medical billing software and Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting
Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for accurate data entry and record keeping
Excellent understanding of healthcare claims management processes and medical collection procedures
Familiarity with health insurance policies, benefits verification, and medical records management
Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex billing information clearly
Attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure accuracy in all billing activities
Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare regulations to maintain compliance
Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of one year of healthcare billing experience (home care or home health preferred).
Experience with insurance claims, denials management, and accounts receivable.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently.
Preferred
Experience with Long Term care Billing. EEOICPA billing, Labor and Industry billing, Long term care billing, Private Billing, and commercial insurance billing.
Knowledge of Washington State home care billing requirements.
Experience with scheduling or home care management software.
