Job Description:
General Overview
Legacy Automation, Inc. (LAI) is an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of material handling equipment for the Pulp and Paper Industry. Servicing a globally installed base that is over 60 years old in some cases. LAI’s product line includes Pulp Bale Conveying, Wrapping, and Processing equipment, Paper Roll Handling, Wrapping, and Processing equipment, Waste Bale Dewiring equipment, and Wood Handling equipment. As such, LAI’s spare parts include components such as custom fabricated steel frames and brackets, sprockets, chains, belts, electrical devices, along with pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders, and related hardware.
LAI’s Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for quality control of components needed to support existing LAI machinery. They are involved in all facets of the inspection process, including reviewing parts in relation to their uses, testing for defects, and meeting both application specifications and regulatory standards.
The Quality Assurance Specialist reports to the Production Manager.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspection of fabricated parts and vendor supplied components.
Communicating with the respective engineering group or production group when defective or incorrect components are encountered, to identify satisfactory corrections or replacements, etc.
Occasional travel to vendor locations for on-site inspections.
Works closely with LAI Engineering and LAI’s Manufacturing resources.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Proficient in the use of mechanical measurement tools, like micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.
Proficient in reading mechanical fabrication and assembly drawings.
A working knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical design symbols.
A working knowledge of welding symbols and their proper application.
Mechanical aptitude / spatial awareness. Experience with machinery in general is a plus.
Good communications skills, written and verbal.
Prior experience in commercial / industrial inspection and quality control is a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Must be detailed oriented with solid organizational skills.
Ability and willingness to travel when required; generally short trips of 3 to 5 days within the US and Canada. Must have a valid driver's license.
Desired Skills:
Computer skills required to work within CAD software, such as AutoCAD and DraftSight.
Familiarity with basic Pneumatic and Hydraulic Circuits.
Familiarity with industrial electrical components, such as switches, photo eyes, motors, etc.
Job Type: Full-time.
Pay: From $35-70K per year, depending on experience and formal training.
Education: AS or BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
Work Location: Hoquiam, Washington. As some travel is required, must be able to legally travel outside the US-particularly to Canada.
