Job Description:
Secretary/Audit Officer Position:
This is an administrative position under the direct supervision of the Fire Chief. The Fire District Secretary is responsible for all clerical and financial record keeping and fiscal duties of the fire department. This is a highly responsible position and the ideal candidate will work well independently. This is a part-time position and hours may be flexible.

Duties:
Attend all Board of Commissioner meetings and keep accurate records of proceedings
Prepare minutes and documents related to the monthly Board of Commissioners meeting
Prepare and finalize the yearly budget in coordination with the Board of Commissioners and Chief
Process and submit invoices in coordination with Yakima County Auditor’s Office
Keep district accounts and all substantiating records and materials such as receipts, orders, vouchers, etc.
Pick up warrants twice monthly from Yakima County Auditor’s office and mail coordinating payments
Receives and maintains custody of funds of the fire district
Prepare reports as needed
Process monthly payroll
Complete quarterly and yearly tax reports, both state and federal
Process all new hire and termination paperwork
Work with state Board for Volunteer Firefighters to complete reporting as required
Complete the state BARS (Budgeting, Accounting Reporting System) audit report annually ensuring compliance with state law
Work with the Chief to perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or equivalent is required
Valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check
Experience in an administrative or fiscal field such as secretarial, bookkeeping, accounting support, financial record keeping or payroll processing
Proficient in the use of computer software such as word processing, spreadsheets, database or record keeping systems
Must be able to work independently and under limited supervision
In the position you may observe and/or assist with medical, fire and other incident records of the public. The position also works with employee records. Thus, the position requires confidentiality.
