Organization: Citizens for Safe Yakima Valley Communities.

Description: Safe Yakima Valley is a community-based organization in Yakima, Washington. The mission of our mentoring program is to enhance the academic, social, and emotional growth of Yakima County through meaningful connections with mentors.

Position Summary: The Mentor Coordinator works closely with other Safe Mentoring staff and reports to the Program Manager. The Mentoring Program Coordinator oversees the development and implementation of the youth mentoring program, which matches adult volunteer mentors with youth in a one-to-one relationship. The Mentoring Coordinator ensures program quality and performance related to recruiting, screening, matching, monitoring, and closing the relationship with the mentor and mentee, and the mentor program coordinator communicates with the mentor, parent/guardian and mentee throughout the relationship. The position is full-time position.

Education and Experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Public Health, Behavioral Sciences or closely related field is preferred; or the equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience. Three years of relevant experience that adequately illustrates the attainment of knowledge, skills, abilities, and other requirements of the job listed. Experience in developing, implementing, and administering programs preferred; Experience supervising volunteers or other individuals preferred; Experience facilitating trainings preferred.

Job Duties:
Oversees SYV’s Mentoring Program implementation and deliverables for Mentoring Grants.
Ongoing outreach and communications to recruit mentors.
Recruit, screen, orient and provide training to all incoming volunteer mentors.
Maintain the minimum client-volunteer matches as required by the Grant(s).
Maintain confidential files for all mentors as well as records of current, pending, and past mentors.
Provide ongoing support and supervision to mentors and mentees, including a minimum of once per month progress report per mentor/mentee, as well as ongoing responsiveness to mentor questions and concerns.
Provide ongoing education workshops to mentors at least once per quarter throughout the year and as required by the Grant.
Work with selected schools and their staff to identify youth for the program.
Ongoing outreach and communications to increase youth referrals.
Respond to all youth referrals in a timely manner; conduct youth intake and paperwork; meet guardian when applicable
Maintain documentation and track program deliverables, including those of partner agencies for required Grant reporting.
Conduct mentor mixers to facilitate new matches.
Plan and implement events for matched youth and their mentors.
Plan and hold annual mentor appreciation event.
Maintain and update program & outreach collateral.
Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Plan, develop, and implement media campaigns, social media initiatives and other campaigns for SYV’s Mentoring Program.
Attend required training and meetings.
Train new mentoring staff as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Office in which employee maintains work space must be located within community served by employer. Community travel is required to provide face to face communication with community members; to attend other community meetings and events; to provide training and technical assistance and participate in mentoring strategies and activities. Statewide travel is required occasionally. Attendance at meetings and prevention activities may require working evening and irregular hours. Access to guaranteed, reliable transportation is required. Occasional physical effort may be required to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of and familiarity with the community.
Demonstrated ability to organize community groups and to work cooperatively with a variety of people and agencies, public groups, and contract agency personnel.
Excellent research, analysis, writing, and communication skills, planning and policy development, report-writing, statistical data gathering and public speaking.
Proven ability to work independently and prioritize several on-going assignments within contractual requirements including deadlines.
Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel within the area served by Safe with occasional state-wide travel.
Sound judgment and the ability to supervise mentors in the field.
Ability to develop positive relationships with community volunteers and with youth.
Highly organized and collaborative.
Ability to take initiative, dependability, flexibility and resourceful.
Must be able to multi-task efficiently and work in a fast-paced environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites, Google Docs/ Calendar and Internet usage.
Additional Skills/Requirements: manage multiple time sensitive issues, adapt to changing circumstances and develop creative solutions; generate a shared vision for the community; generate and maintain enthusiasm for developing solutions and instill a sense of hopefulness for continued improvement of health outcomes; provide technical assistance through coaching, mentoring, training, delegating, and directing; establish effective working relationships with diverse communities, agencies and staff; communicate effectively both orally and in writing with tact, diplomacy and sensitivity; work independently and work effectively in teams and work groups.

Additional Requirements:
Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driver’s abstract is required prior to employment.
Ability to pass Washington State Patrol Background check and any further established background requirements.
Able to work some evenings and weekends.
Bi-lingual (English-Spanish) preferred.
Enthusiastic interest in supporting the mission Safe Yakima Valley.

Salary and Benefits:
$60,200 to $67,200 (which includes a medical stipend) depending on experience and education.
Cell phone allowance and paid time off also available.
