The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a senior-level specialist to lead in the maintenance, repair, and installation of traffic control signs for Maintenance Area 2, which primarily includes Whitman County. The Maintenance Specialist 3 needs to be adaptive, with the ability to independently make decisions regarding their daily work activities and the correct installation of regulatory, guide, informational, and warning signs. These signs provide uniformity, guidance, and safety for all elements of the traveling public including vehicular traffic, pedestrian traffic, and bicycle traffic.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will:

Lead and coordinate the installation, maintenance, and repair of highway signs.
Maintain proper inventory for sign and marking repairs and installations.
Document all sign work.
Inventory and order materials needed in the repair and installation of signs.
Operate both Class A and B snow and ice control equipment and lead Highway Maintenance Workers in snow and ice operations.
Organize and lead pavement marking of crosswalks, stop bars, and other pavement markings using paint or thermos plastic.
Keep accurate inventory of materials used in pavement marking.
Lead maintenance activities in absence of the Highway Maintenance Worker 3 or Supervisor.


Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

Two (2) years of highway maintenance, roadway construction or related experience.
Class A Commercial Driver's License with N endorsement and without airbrake or automatic transmission restrictions.
Washington State Flagger Card or ability to obtain one within six months of employment.
Ability to work at heights exceeding 15 feet in a bucket truck.
Ability to perform work on uneven terrain next to live traffic and with heavy equipment.
Ability to work alternate shifts and respond to emergency situations in all weather conditions; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Possess basic computer skills to receive and send email, use the Internet, and enter information into computer programs, forms, and mobile technology devices.


It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

High school graduate or possession of a GED certification.
Two years of experience with highway sign installation and maintenance.
Experience reading plans and MUTCD.
Digger Derrick certified.
