Location to Host Construction & Carpentry Technology Program Expansion

Perry Tech announced today that it has entered into an agreement with the Port of Sunnyside to establish the school’s first ever campus outside of Yakima – Perry Tech Sunnyside.  The initial offering will be a 1-year Construction & Carpentry Technology program in the former Yakima Valley Technical Skills Center-Sunnyside Campus.

Enrollment is now open for the first class which begins Tuesday, January 2, 2024.  With 18 seats available, Perry Tech Sunnyside will offer one start per year and training will take place Monday through Thursday from 7:00am-3:30pm.  Theory taught will mirror current curriculum offered on the main Yakima campus where students study a broad base of knowledge and skills to work within the construction industry including layouts, blueprints, framing, tool usage, safety, concrete, and finishing.  Training also includes basic drywall concepts, power saws and drills, site surveying, scaffolding, and professional development.

Currently, Perry Technical Institute is preparing the existing site for the inaugural class where both theory and practical application will be taught.  Tours of the program for prospective students and stakeholders will be held at the Yakima campus.  Students attending Perry Tech Sunnyside will also have the opportunity to construct homes from the ground up as Perry Tech has agreed to partner with Habitat for Humanity in assisting with future Lower Yakima Valley builds.

“We could not be more excited to have the opportunity to expand our school with the Perry Tech Sunnyside location, for the first time in our nearly 85-year history.  To be able to create easier access to higher education and hands-on skills is something we really strive for in our efforts to fulfill our mission,” stated Christine Coté, President of Perry Technical Institute.  “We are very grateful for the opportunity that the Port of Sunnyside presented to us, and I can’t wait to see the positive impact that I believe we will make in people’s lives.”
