Perry Technical Institute was named the 2020 Excellence in Community Service award recipient today by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) during the ACCSC’s virtual Professional Development Conference (PDC). The Excellence in Community Service Award recognizes ACCSC-accredited institutions for outstanding contributions made to their local community through service initiatives and their impact on the personal lives of school personnel, students, and community members.
While there were several deciding factors that ultimately led to the selection, key components highlighted by ACCSC made the Perry Tech nomination stand out. Citing cross collaboration across multiple programmatic departments, Perry highlighted their capacity for developing partnerships with local organizations including Habitat for Humanity and La Casa Hogar where students from the Construction, Electrical Technology, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology and Plumbing Technology disciplines had the first-hand opportunity to develop their skills through community project focused instructor-led training. Furthermore, Perry Tech identified recent welding-student projects that supported community initiatives for both the Japanese Pioneer Memorial Garden at Tahoma Cemetery and The Ancient Bison Antiquus Silhouette as part of the Wenas Mammoth Foundation.
“To be recognized for Excellence in Community Service by ACCSC, the accrediting body for more than 650 post-secondary, trade and technical schools across the nation is something that I think everyone associated with the school should be proud of,” stated Christine Coté, President of Perry Technical Institute. Coté continued, “We believe that community service learning provides an excellent platform to achieve our mission and create a diverse and inclusive educational environment that is rich with opportunity to not only teach skills of the trades but also civic responsibility.”
