Yakima, WA – October 13th, 2017 – FarWest Fabricators announced a new $5,000 Jeff Carter Scholarship today to support Perry Technical Institute students pursuing technical training.

FarWest Fabricators is funding the new scholarship, named after its recently-retired former owner Jeff Carter, as part of its expanded commitment to the Yakima community following acquisition of the company by Solomons Fund, which was announced August 1, 2017. That commitment is a key element of a long-term strategic plan for FarWest Fabricators that envisions growing revenues and profits, creating new jobs and mentoring next-generation leadership.

“We’ve had great success over the years hiring Perry Tech graduates, and we know that great educational institutions are key to the health of any community,” said Norm Thomas, chief executive officer of FarWest Fabricators. “We’re proud to be able to offer our support both financially and through our employees serving as advisors and mentors for Perry Tech and its students.”

The Jeff Carter Scholarship is the second Perry Tech scholarship provided by a Solomons Fund-purchased company in Yakima. The $5,000 Graphic Label Scholarship Fund was announced in August 2016.

The Perry Technical Institute Foundation will supervise the fund, which the school will award to two students in the amount of $2,500 each. Students in the following two programs are eligible: Welding, and Machining & Precision Manufacturing. The Foundation will make award decisions based on an assessment of grades, attendance and work ethic, and the school will give preference to veterans.

“Throughout our history, Perry has focused on providing industry with employees that have the right combination of technical skills and positive work habits,” said Christine Coté, President of Perry Technical Institute. “Our success is built on the support and involvement of industry partners. We are honored to work with FarWest Fabricators to expand the scholarship opportunities available to Perry students.”
