Perry Technical Institute is dedicated to supporting the academic success of our students. It is our policy and practice to comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other federal, state and local requirements, to make reasonable accommodation to ensure equal access to educational offerings.
While Perry Tech retains the right to establish academic standards and requirements for each of our programs, we individually review each accommodation request, keeping in mind a number of factors. Consideration is given to the nature of the disability, the accommodation necessary, and the key aspects of the training and education the student is pursuing (or wishes to pursue) in an effort to make reasonable accommodation to address a student’s needs. Perry Tech will work with the student so that he or she can learn in the classroom and lab settings, unless the accommodation fundamentally alters the program or course of study or causes undue financial burdens.
The type of accommodations that Perry Technical Institute provides are based on the student’s disability and the nature of the learning opportunities, and may include seating at the front of the classroom or the ability to step away from the learning environment as needed.
Students are responsible to inform PTI of the need for accommodation and to provide professional or medical documentation. PTI will not seek out students to determine if a need is present. Once an accommodation is provided, it is up to the student to access and use the accommodation. In some cases, PTI may require additional information to recertify the student’s need for accommodations. Please note that IEPs and 504 plans alone are not used to define disabilities or accommodations. See the Policy for Students and Applicants with Disabilities for more information about what PTI may require.
