Perry Tech grad Alex Messner successfully completed the ITCS program and is now employed with a school district in the Yakima Valley. She shared her story with us, and it was clear she is not only a successful graduate, but an example to young women everywhere who are considering a non-traditional trade:
I just can’t thank Perry Tech enough for all of the help they have provided me with. I have successfully completed the Information Technology and Communications Systems program and am now employed with the Sunnyside School District in the Technology Department.
The ITCS program encompasses many aspects of the industry, and the curriculum has prepared me well for my daily duties. My job requires a diverse skill set, and on a daily basis I utilize knowledge gained from hands-on experiences that I acquired while in school. Learning, for me, is best achieved while doing an activity, rather than just studying it and taking a test. Fortunately, more than 50% of the time that students are in school is “lab time” which is an opportunity to experience learned theory first hand.
In addition to being well prepared scholastically, Perry does an outstanding job of ensuring that the time students spend in school is put to good use by providing many great resources for obtaining employment. Career Services was instrumental in helping myself and my classmates build outstanding resumes and cover letters that highlight not just what we learned in school, but also showcasing skills gained from non-related past employment that are transferable to our new career path. Our instructors often showed my class job opportunities in our field and pointed us towards resources where we could find our own.
Perry Tech is an outstanding institution and I am so grateful for everything it has provided me with.
