Yakima, WA – January 4, 2018 – Perry Technical Institute will launch a new Plumbing Technician program in September of 2018. The school received overwhelming support from industry leaders and met with them throughout the 2017 year to lay the foundation for the 1-year program.
Perry Technical Institute’s Plumbing Technician program is designed to fast-track a lucrative career in the industry. It offers students a diversified curriculum that guides them through the process of becoming a plumbing technician. The program will cover program subjects such as plumbing fundamentals, mathematics, blueprint reading, waste systems, water supply systems, finish and advanced plumbing. It will also focus on creating leaders in the field by focusing on professional development and the student’s externship.
Students will spend the 12-month program studying and applying safety, fittings, power tools, drains, backflow, venting, and water distribution systems. Training will include the installation of piping, fixtures, valves, water heaters, and professional development for the plumbing industry. The Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) will be used and applied throughout the program. The first graduating class for the program is set to receive their diplomas September 2019.
During their training, plumbing students will have the opportunity to work on new construction projects (house building with Habitat for Humanity) and side by side with employers (externship) during their training.
The Plumbing Technician Program will be the 13th program at Perry Technical Institute. Currently the school offers 12 in-demand training programs that can be completed in one to two years.
