Perry Tech is proud to announce that the school has begun construction and development on an all-new Commercial Plumbing Lab. Students of the one-year Plumbing Technician program at Perry Tech will have a new element of their education to look forward to beginning this fall with the addition of the hands-on Commercial Plumbing training space.
Traditionally, Perry Tech has trained the Plumbing Technician students indoors between classroom and indoor lab environments, and relied heavily on real-world experience through offsite projects and externships to develop their outdoor hands-on skills. ”Now with the addition of an outdoor commercial learning environment, students are able to gain invaluable experience in an enhanced controlled environment prior to heading out into the real world,” stated Kasey Johns, Department Head for the Plumbing Technician program at Perry Tech. Johns continued, “This just adds to the overall experience, and is something that I think will make transitioning out into the workforce even easier for our graduates.”
The Commercial Plumbing Lab is being constructed in collaboration between the Perry Technical Institute’s Construction & Carpentry Technology and Plumbing Technician program students, and will feature the opportunity for students to practice ground works, stringing layouts, installations to grade and back filling, and ensuring projects meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) rough-in codes. Designed to simulate what students will often encounter in the field, the new lab space will offer not only unique learning opportunities that will present new challenges, but also expand the overall experience and increase the level of knowledge and understanding graduates will have obtained.
