Yakima, WA – May 5th, 2017 – Perry Tech has received a Community Leadership Award for contributions to the Naches School District. The district honored Perry Tech at a district awards banquet, commending the institute for their commitment to make a difference in the community. Last year Perry Tech Electrical students and staff installed solar panels on top of the new Naches Elementary School.
Prior to the installation, the school district submitted a proposal to Pacific Power to receive a Blue Sky grant for the solar panels, which detailed Perry Tech's involvement. Projects are selected annually through a competitive evaluation process. The school district received $90,000 to purchase the solar panels.
On April 18th, the Naches School District held an unveiling of the project, where the kids gave a big thank you to Perry Tech and Pacific Power's Blue Sky Program for making their school more energy efficient. Naches School District Superintendent Duane Lyons says they are incorporating the project into the math and science curriculum and an educational kiosk delivers real-time generation data in the school's lobby.
