Perry Tech is responding to the high demand from employers for skilled welders and machinists in more ways than one. The school hosted a drop-in event on May 15th, inviting anyone interested in the Welding Technology and Precision Machining and Manufacturing programs. The event had a great turnout, with tours of both programs and the opportunity to connect with faculty. There were also giveaways, food, drinks, and dessert for all in attendance and their families.
Employers from both fields are in need of skilled welders and machinists, and have said great things about hiring Perry Tech grads. Robert Detloff is a fabrication manager at CubCrafters, a Yakima company that manufactures airplanes. He’s also a 2010 Perry Tech Welding graduate, and says when hiring, he doesn’t have to worry about whether Perry Tech grads can keep up with the pace of their environment. “Welding grads from Perry have the foundational skills to jump in to what we’re doing here at CubCrafters.”
Joseph Lowe is also an employer, serving as the Fabrication Supervisor for Pexco Aerospace. "Being a Perry Tech Alumni myself, I understand what employers are looking for in the level of training their new candidates have received as well as the discipline required to excel as a Perry Tech Student. It has been a pleasure working with Perry Tech to continually provide us with qualified CNC Operators to manufacture high quality parts for the Aerospace industry! Currently 53% of our CNC Operator workforce are Perry Tech graduates!"
