The Washington State Ferry (WSF) system is an essential part of Washington's transportation network, linking communities on both sides of Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. There are over 400 sailings each day on 9 ferry routes. WSF transports nearly 24 million passengers a year and has more than 1,600 employees. Employees perform a variety of duties on vessels, in terminals, at the maintenance facility, and at the Seattle headquarters.

The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Marine Journeyperson Pipefitter to perform marine pipefitting work in accordance with Federal, State, and US Coast Guard regulations. This position supports Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility in its mission to provide preventive maintenance and emergency repair for ferry vessels and terminals.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Marine Journeyperson Pipefitter will:

Install, maintain, and repair all vessel plumbing and piping systems.
Install, maintain, and repair steering systems, steam and condensate systems, boilers system components, compressed air systems, portable and fixed Co2 systems, hydraulics systems, high and low-pressure hoses, relief and safety valves, firefighting systems, pumps, and pressure vessels such as air bottles, boilers, and tanks.
Perform silver braze and soldering (welding).
Assist with USCG annual inspections and repair deficiencies.
Assist with other shipyard craft workers.
Perform preventative maintenance for vessels and terminals.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
Journey Level Status as a Marine Pipefitter. OR
Completion of an L&I recognized apprenticeship program (WSATC 0115). OR
Three (3) years of journey pipefitter work experience.
Ability to read, interpret, understand, and utilize marine and mechanical blueprints.
Ability to layout, plan, install, repair, flush, and test various pipe and tube systems.
Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 90 days of hire.
Annual fit test, which may include the requirement to shave if necessary to obtain a skin-to-rubber seal.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Washington State Department of Health Back Flow Assembly Tester (BAT) certification
Fire Extinguisher Certification (FEX)
USCG Silver Brazing Certification required within the first two (2) years
Washington State Plumbing License
