The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking an IT Support Technician to serve as a Network Management Tech Intern. This position offers a unique opportunity for an intern to actively engage in the growth and evolution of our network infrastructure, making a tangible impact on our organization's success in providing reliable and efficient network services. This intern position will play a pivotal role in advancing our organization's mission to establish and maintain a robust, efficient, and cutting-edge network infrastructure. By undertaking tasks such as converting fiber documentation into a GIS-based dataset using the Vetro Fiber Mapping tool, building e911 location records within the Teams admin portal, and digitizing purchase order records, the successful student will contribute to enhancing the accuracy and accessibility of crucial network information. This role's significance extends to the improvement of overall operational efficiency and, subsequently, the delivery of high-quality services to our internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, the intern in this role may have the opportunity to collaborate with field crews, gaining hands-on experience in installing network gear and participating in fiber pulling and splicing activities. By joining our team, you will not only contribute to the immediate goals of documentation accuracy and network optimization but also stand to gain valuable experience in various facets of network management, aligning with our mission to foster continuous learning and professional development.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Network Management Tech Intern will:

Be responsible for reviewing, editing, and updating all network documentation, including fiber documentation.
Travel with network technicians to assist in the installation of network components.
Identify and read network hardware purchase order documentation, identify the specific order, and digitize those documents with an MFP; then upload and appropriately document that information within the Remedy system database.
Remotely access network devices, extracting MAC address information, and tie data together with location specific data.
Wipe and process surplus equipment, collect leased circuit data, and create network diagrams and maps in tools.
Pack and palletize equipment for surplus and coordinate pickup and drop-off with appropriate teams.


Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a bachelor's degree program in Computer Science, or related field at an accredited college or university.
An understanding of networking principles TCP/IP, OSI Model, and SNMP.


It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

Familiarity with GIS tools, cable testing, fiber optic cabling, and Visio.

This position offers flexible/hybrid remote work options.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
