Summary:

This job posting is for the full-time position of CAD Drafter / CNC Programmer with ASAP Metal Fabricators, a sheet-metal manufacturing job shop in Yakima, WA.

The Drafter is responsible for preparing shop drawings and making sure all prints match customer requests and follow our ASAP internal processes. The Designer will also prepare parts for laser cutting and specify tooling used for press brake operations. Some jobs may require light CNC programming skills. We’re looking for someone reliable, who can work well with others, and is excited to work on different parts and projects every day. Here are some details:

Typical Responsibilities

Prepare shop drawings from customer prints, part models, samples or specifications
Create CAD drawings with all necessary views, fully dimensioned and toleranced
Specifies all materials and tools (press brake) required for each job on shop drawings
Revision Control, identify customer print changes, update shop drawings accordingly
Excellent attention to detail, minimizing rework due to incorrect shop drawings
Manage drafter work backlog, keep production fed with available jobs with all required Shop Drawings and Programming complete
Design Cad Drawing using Solidworks design
Know when to escalate an issue and seek assistance
Participate in Continuous Improvement, share your ideas and innovations. Make a real difference in a small business team with no bureaucracy!

Preferred Qualifications
Experience and confidence with SolidWorks
Experience with sheet metal part manufacturing processes
Experience with programming CNC machines (laser, press brake, punch)
Basic understanding of sheet metal nesting software, such as SigmaNEST
Effective project management, time management and organization skills are a must
Attention to detail is critical
Confidence with computers and data entry skills
Ability to operate a forklift as needed
Must be able to lift 50lbs
Flexible and responsive, with a strong teamwork orientation
Good verbal and written communication skills
Desire to learn new skills and improve my technical knowledge
Commitment to quality of work performed
Demonstrated ability to effectively implement or respond to change

Preferred Experience
2-4 Years experience as a CAD Designer (SolidWorks or AutoCAD preferred)
Hands-on experience with press brake, tool selection and problem solving
Experience with CNC nesting software
We will train the right person!

The business operates on a standard 40-hour workweek. Overtime may occasionally be required. Standard hours of operation are:

Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
