The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Maintenance Mechanic 3. As a senior specialist, this role involves maintaining, repairing, and testing complex mechanical, HVAC, piping, pumps, and fire life safety systems within the SR99 Tunnel and its support buildings. Reporting to a Maintenance Mechanic 4 (MM4), the incumbent will occasionally act as a crew leader, providing direction to junior personnel. What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Maintenance Mechanic 3 will:

Maintain, test, and repair mechanical and fire life safety systems within the SR99 Tunnel and associated buildings.
Utilize a computerized maintenance management system to issue, track, and record crew job accomplishments.
Direct the work of others, obtaining estimates and making recommendations on necessary repairs.
Perform repairs or upgrades to failing components, determining appropriate methods.
Use computers for various tasks such as writing emails, memos, and conducting research.
Collaborate with peers to meet assigned maintenance projects and operate light construction equipment.
Work in confined and hazardous spaces, ensuring safety within the SR99 Tunnel and support structures.
Operate various gas, propane, and electrical support equipment for tasks.
Drive motor vehicles and CDL equipment for work, including traffic control and snow & ice operations.
Provide input to assist with planning work activities and maintain good safety and public relations.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
High School Graduation or GED.
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade and one (1) year of experience as a journey-level worker in a building, fire system, or mechanical trade or equivalent professional work experience.
Valid Washington State driver's license with CDL Class B with auto transmission without air brake restriction or the ability to acquire within 6 months of employment.
Ability to work long hours in commercial/industrial settings within SR99 Tunnel and buildings. Work in confined spaces above/below ground, high-traffic roads. Work with large electrical/mechanical equipment at heights above 25 feet. Hazards include high-voltage systems, mechanical devices, and pressurized equipment. May be exposed to sharps, blood-borne pathogens, and hazardous materials.
Ability to work nights, days, weekends, and extended hours (Overtime) may be required.
Ability to manipulate 50 lbs. in a safe manner.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have the following:
Journey-level status in a building, fire system, or mechanical trade.
Five (5) years of journey-level experience in a building, fire system, or mechanical trade.
Experience as a crew leader.
Licensed backflow tester.

This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs.
Some regional and statewide travel may be required to attend meetings/conferences or participate in training.
The salary listed includes the legislatively approved 10% Group C premium for MM3 positions located in Seattle, WA, King County.
The salary listed includes the legislative-approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
This position is not eligible for remote work.

In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
