The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking multiple Maintenance Mechanic 2's (MM2) to join Northwest Region’s Facilities Maintenance team in Shoreline, WA. The top candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on a variety of building systems including electrical, structural, exterior, and especially heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. This position is expected to consider personal, co-worker and public safety as the first and foremost objective during the planning and performance of all activities in connection with work assignments.
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the MM2 (In-Training) will:
Inspect, maintain, and repair heating system components and related equipment.
Conduct checks on equipment, change filters, clean equipment, maintain duct work, dampers, air flow balance, verify efficient operation, document discrepancies and service performed.
Use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
Work from ladders, motor vehicles, trucks, scissor lifts, scaffolds, forklifts and manlifts.
Use small hand tools, large power tools, carpet machines, small gas engine equipment. Use applicable safety devices required to perform the task.
Assemble, install, or repair plumbing.
Maintain, trouble shoot and make repairs, adjustments, and modifications to restore or improve function of the systems.
Perform electrical, carpentry, and painting work and repairs.
Qualifications
This is a Maintenance Mechanic 2 position. However, the hiring manager reserves the right to fill the position at a lower level (Maintenance Mechanic 1) depending on the qualifications, providing an opportunity for an individual to gain the required experience on the job as part of a formal “in-training” plan.
To be considered for this opportunity at the Maintenance Mechanic 1 level, the following are required:
Two (2) years' experience in commercial building maintenance or construction trade.
To be considered for this opportunity at the Maintenance Mechanic 2 level, the following are required:
Four (4) years' experience in commercial building maintenance or construction trade.
To be considered at any level, the following are required:
Graduation from High school or equivalency.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to work from ladders, motor vehicles, trucks, scissor lifts, scaffolds, forklifts and manlifts.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Graduation from an accredited trade school.
Building operators certification level 1.
Experience reading blueprints.
Experience as an equipment operator.
Experience performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

This position performs physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
This is a Maintenance Mechanic 2 (MM2) position. MM1: $53,953 – $62,596
