The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic 3 to join the SR99 Tunnel Maintenance Team. We are looking for individuals that are mechanically focused, innovative and enjoy new challenges. This senior specialist role is responsible for various mechanical, piping, and fire systems within and related to the SR99 Tunnel. These systems include air, foam, and water lines, pneumatic and hydraulic actuators, sprinkler systems, mechanical valves, heating boilers, piping insulators, piping drains, and sewage and drainage lift pumps. Work is done independently and under the supervision of journey level trades workers.
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, Maintenance Mechanic 3 will:
Clean and repair various equipment and facility related hardware.
Install new water service lines, pneumatic airlines, pumps, air compressors, and plumbing fixtures.
Perform and assist with maintenance, repairs and testing of piping, plumbing, valves, pumps, fans, bearings, and motors.
Operate hand and power tools to accomplish assignments.
Operate motor vehicles and equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts and other equipment as needed.
Provide estimates for time and materials and place orders.
Review and revise system prints and drawings.
Test and repair backflow devices and fire extinguishers.
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
High School diploma or GED
Valid Driver’s License with CDL Class B with auto transmission without air brakes restriction or the ability to acquire it within 6 months of employment.
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanical trade and one (1) year of experience as a journeyman level worker in a building, fire system or mechanical trade.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Journey Level status in building, fire system, or mechanical trade
Five (5) or more years journey level experience in a building, fire system, or mechanical trade.
Experience as a crew leader
Licensed backflow tester.

This position is not eligible for remote work.
The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County. An additional 10% assignment pay is included.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
