Job Description:
Annual compensation package to $90,000, plus incentives. Our forest products client, with locations in Tennessee and Oregon, is seeking a qualified controls engineer to design, develop, and implement control systems for the equipment designed and built by the company. The position, based in Chattanooga, will require some travel to job sites for commissioning systems and supporting customer and field technicians. The selected candidate’s duties will include programming PLCs and HMIs used to control the machine venters and working with suppliers in specifying electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components used on equipment. Specifying and sizing basic 3-phase motor controllers, AC soft starts, and AC drives as required by the orders will also be part of the new controls engineer’s job responsibilities. They will also need to generate electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and bills of materials in AutoCAD. The controls engineer should have creative problem solving and troubleshooting skills, good people skills, good written and oral communication skills, and good attention to detail. At least two years of electrical, control, and automation experience, along with experience with AutoCAD, is required. In addition, the selected candidate should also have a degree in electrical engineering or equivalent, a broad electrical background (including 3-phase systems), and experience with PLC/HMI programming.
