The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking two Equipment Technicians (ET3) to serve as Welders in Seattle, WA. This position fabricates specialized parts and repairs equipment using MIG/TIG welding. At times, the incumbent may also inspect, diagnose, make major and minor repairs, and perform preventative maintenance, on all types of equipment used in highway maintenance or heavy and industrial/commercial equipment. This position is ideal for a welder/fabricator who is looking for an exciting opportunity to utilize their valuable skills and knowledge.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Welder will:

Design, fabricate, weld, and install additional equipment to vehicles.
Repair miscellaneous parts of equipment
Perform seasonal work on sanders, snow plows, and four-wheel drive equipment.
Respond to field calls.
Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment.
Repair, overhaul, inspect, and maintain all types of equipment.
Perform initial wiring for all electrical accessories on vehicles and equipment systems.
Use M-5 Fleet Management System and order parts.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience as a welder, fabricator, or millwright, OR successful completion of technical training at a recognized welding/fabricating apprenticeship program.
Valid driver’s license
Ability to lift and safely move objects weighing in excess of 50lbs.
Ability to stand stationary for periods up to 30 minutes at a time and alternate between standing and walking up to 10 hours per work shift.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Successful completion of vocational technical training in heavy equipment, light vehicles and/or industrial/commercial equipment repair, including welding/fabricating.
One (1) year assisting a journey-level heavy equipment mechanic.
Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with “N” and air brake endorsements, no automatic transmission restriction.

This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs.
This position is not eligible for remote work.
The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County and 10% Assignment Pay.
The salary listed for this position also includes the legislative approved 20% Assignment Pay for heavy equipment mechanics.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
