The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a journey-level workstation support technician to serve as a Workstation Support Administrator in Tumwater, WA. Reporting directly to the Materials Laboratory Network & Workstation Support Manager, this position is responsible for all desktop computer systems and related components, in support of the Materials Laboratory
and Construction Division. As the Network/Server Administrator, you will install deploys, maintain, and solve problems proactively on hardware, software, and critical applications on-site and remotely with diagnostic tools as required to meet the business and strategic goals of WSDOT. In this role, you will also perform standard maintenance, preventive maintenance, modification, testing, and debugging. Our top candidate must have exceptional communication skills, as this senior level specialist will be expected to independently consult with customers on solutions.
What to Expect
The Materials Laboratory IT organization includes the following units: Helpdesk, Network Administration, Workstation Support, Application Support, and Web Services. It functions as the central support group for all technology related equipment and issues for the nearly 2500 customers spread across the State. This organization is place-based providing the technology and the infrastructure needed to deliver technical and business knowledge vital to the support of WSDOT mission critical materials, quality, and related applications.
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Workstation Support Administrator will:
Monitor, maintain, and support WSDOT workstations and mobile devices.
Design, configure, implement, monitor, and maintain storage distribution across the Server Infrastructure.
Serve as a service member of the Workstation Administrators Group (WAG). This membership represents the highest technical expertise in the administration of desktop services deployed to WSDOT customers.
Serve as the highest point of escalation for all unresolved workstation support issues.
Plan and lead large-scale hardware and software deployment projects that have an agency-wide impact.
Manage, support, maintain, and troubleshoot legacy and specialized software.
Provide training for end users in one on one and group setting on all facets of computer hardware and software.
Mentor and develop staff.
Support, maintain, and troubleshoot Materials Laboratory Applications (MATS, ASA, ROM, QPL, SAM)
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
Six (6) years of experience in a desktop support setting (college education may be substituted for years of experience on a year for year basis).
Experience effectively communicating and providing assistance to a diverse set of information technology peers.
Experience providing technical consulting and performing installation of IT hardware and software.
Experience supporting Microsoft Operating Systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and standard Adobe products.
The ability to manipulate and transport up to 50 pounds of equipment.
A valid driver’s license.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
COMP TIA A+ Certification.
COMP TIA NET+ Certification.
Experience supporting Microsoft SharePoint to create and update manager servers and user’s environment.

This position may require occasional travel to other sites across the state with possible overnight stays.
This position is not eligible for remote work.
