Job Description:
The Department of Revenue's (DOR) Compliance Division is looking for an instinctive individual to fill a vacant Tax Information Specialist 1 (TIS1) position in Yakima, WA. The TIS1 is part of Revenue's "front line" of taxpayer service providing accurate and quick assistance with business registration and reporting requirements.

Candidate screening will begin as early as October 18, 2023 and the hiring authority may exercise the option to make a hiring decision at any time after. It will be to the applicant's advantage to submit materials as soon as possible.

¿Hablas, lees y escribes español con fluidez? (Are you fluent in reading, writing and speaking Spanish?) This position interacts with Spanish speaking claimants in writing and over the phone. Your ability to read, write and speak Spanish will earn you an additional 5% assignment pay! As one of the division’s primary dual-language Customer Service Specialists, your language skills will provide in house translation for those taxpayers needing assistance.

Duties
We are seeking a dynamic customer service professional with a strong work ethic who will serve taxpayers by educating, interpreting, and providing instruction on Washington State tax laws, rules and reporting.

Some additional functions of the job include:
Opening accounts and issuing Unified Business Identifier (UBI) numbers for new businesses, assigning filing frequency and collecting application fees.
Completing Use Tax Declarations and Use Tax Returns by determining eligibility for exemptions or assessment of Use Tax on motor vehicles, vessels, and aircraft.
Receiving, recording and accounting for monies and checks received in payment of tax returns, tax warrants, invoices and applications.
Filing legal documents with courts.

A successful candidate will:
Possess critical use of customer service skills with an expert ability to prioritize and resolve numerous situations simultaneously.
Become proficient in state tax laws and rules to advise customers on their rights and responsibilities as a taxpayer.
Identify a customer's issue, and quickly be able to find a logical way to assist the customer.
During the first few months, you will receive hands on training in the office although telework may also be available. The details will be worked out between you and your supervisor.
Qualifications
Associate degree or higher.

OR

Three years or more experience providing customer service in financial institution, banking industry, personal finance or claims adjustment. This experience should include:
Consulting with clients to arrive at mutually beneficial results for the organization and the client.
Collecting payment for products or services.
Documenting transactions.
Reconciling records within internal and financial control protocols.

Preference may be granted to candidates who are you fluent in reading, writing and speaking Spanish?
