The Opportunity
WSDOT has an exceptional opportunity for a trade’s professional as a Maintenance Mechanic 3 in Pasco, WA. This is the senior, specialist, or lead worker level of the series. Positions at this level perform skilled work in more than one trade or
craft. Incumbents typically specialize in one trade or craft but perform journey-level and semi-skilled work in a variety of disciplines. This position will perform construction, maintenance, repair and modification of buildings, facilities, mechanical equipment, machinery, and specific apparatus and utilize a working knowledge of several related skill fields such as plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, and machinist work. This position supports the mission of WSDOT by providing necessary roadway maintenance. Organization chart attached.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will:

Repair and remodel buildings.
Perform preventative maintenance and repair mechanical equipment.
Develop preliminary cost estimates of repairs, maintenance, and alteration projects.
Develop solutions to repair or maintain facilities.
Read and interpret plans, blueprints, and sketches.
Order supplies and materials and keep detailed records of transactions.
Identify and resolve problems.
Install and maintain plumbing, electrical, and mechanical fixtures.
Establish protocol and order supplies.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
Valid CDL Class A with N endorsement without airbrake restriction and current CDL medical card required.
Washington State Flagging Card.
Two (2) years highway maintenance, roadway construction, or related experience.
Work with the public and fellow employees in a professional manner daily.
Basic computer skills and ability to learn Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel, iPads, and other electronic/technical equipment in the field.
Follow required traffic control guidelines and instigate traffic control plans utilizing signs, cones, barricades, VMS, and other traffic control equipment. Flag traffic within established work zones.
Stay alert concerning personal and coworker safety.
Communicate effectively in both verbal and written form. Must have temperament and skills to communicate with the public as a positive representative of WSDOT. Must also be able to communicate and work successfully with coworkers.
Climb ladders and work in confined spaces.
Wear PPEs appropriate to position.
Work independently, understand instructions, and solve problems.
Be on time for work, and regular work attendance is required.
Respond to emergency callout situations within a reasonable time frame.
Read warning labels for materials and/or equipment being used in workplace, and access MSDS information.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
High school graduation or possession of a GED certificate, completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade, and one (1) year of experience as a journey-level worker in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
