Yakima Valley College is accepting applications for the position of Network Administrator - Entry. This is a full-time, classified position, The beginning salary is $5,719 per month for 40 hours per week, with periodic increments up to $7,695, plus a full state benefits package.
The Technology Services Department provides facilities and technical support for students, faculty, and staff in various implementations of technology in support of institutional goals. Technology Services supports workstations and virtual desktops in various locations across the college district, physical and virtual servers, a campus-wide fiber backbone, wireless network, telephone and other communications systems, and multimedia/projection systems. Technology Services provides hardware and software configuration and support services, technical and end-user support, web application development, and data and integration services to help further the success of Yakima Valley College’s students.
The Network Administrator - Entry reports to the Network Administrator - Senior position and provides Tier 2 support. Both positions will work together in the core functions of Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond and Recover over network and network security issues. This position plays a key role in maintaining college operations. The Network administrator will help with the three components of Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability of the college systems.
The Network Administrator - Entry recommends and supports the department regarding the configuration of the current network infrastructure and best practices for future expansion. This position involves the planning, analysis, design, testing, configuration, installation, implementation, documentation, maintenance, recovery and management of networked systems for mission critical college systems.
Essential Tasks
ABILITY TO:
Interpret and apply policies, rules, and regulations;
Produce quality documentation using Microsoft Office and Visio;
Produce step-by-step instructions and training material for dissemination;
Work independently with little supervision;
Effectively communicate through various technical and personal methods;
Work with both technical and non-technical staff and faculty;
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work with power and hand tools.
Ascend/descend on a ladder.
Installing technology above, below, and in small desk spaces.
This position may involve frequent standing, sitting, bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing from 50 to 70 pounds.
Moving various objects, including technology assets, peripherals, and large carts loaded with technology assets.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate of Arts Degree, Associate of Applied Science, or Certificate in Information Technology (IT), Telecommunications, Information Technology & Communications Systems, Information Technology & Administration Management, Computer Networking, Network Administration, Computer Science or related technical field AND
Two (2) years of work experience in a network support role.
Experience supporting network infrastructures
Experience supporting wireless systems and wireless networks.
Experience supporting VoIP systems OR
Equivalent education/experience
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Science, ( related field)
Experience with network security protocols and tools
Experience supporting the use of network monitoring systems
Experience with Firewall and Switches systems
Knowledge of wireless hardware and configuration
Hold active related IT Certifications
Understanding of TCP/IP, and VPN protocols
Understanding of routing and VLAN switching technologies
Understanding of network cabling fundamentals (Ethernet and Optic Fiber)
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Support the management and maintenance of all college network infrastructure devices and remotely connected sites;
Support the planning and coordination of network infrastructure projects. Resolve issues associated with these projects;
Troubleshooting of VoIP systems;
Routinely monitor all network devices and assess their performance;
Create and keep update of documentation, guides of how-to, and network diagrams;
Support with backups/restores of network system configurations;
Assist with maintenance schedules for infrastructure projects to improve the technology;
In cases where outside knowledge is required to complete the tasks, recommend the best source of information to the Network Administrator – Senior;
Support disaster recovery, backup, and testing plans;
Implement, monitor and maintain network security controls;
Work cooperatively with department staff and provide solutions;
Assist in creating and updating IT policies and standards relevant to network infrastructure;
May represent the Network Administrator - Senior at meetings as their agent;
Skilled in the diagnosis, troubleshooting and/or maintenance of IT systems;
Resolves problems requiring analysis and the discernment of the most suitable solution(s)/processes(s) available. Selects from "in the box"/best practice models/strategies to resolve problems;
Uses skills and abilities to complete routine tasks at the beginning, while growing toward completing tasks of increasing complexity;
Recognizes basic knowledge and skills and the ability to apply learning in everyday situations under direct guidance or supervision;
Participates in specialized projects under the direction of a higher-level IT professional;
Perform other duties as assigned;
