The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking to fill three IT Data Management – Journey vacancies located in Olympia, WA. These positions are members of our Project Propel Technology Transformation Team will serve as Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) Developers. Project Propel is supporting One Washington’s efforts to modernize technology and administrative business functions related to finance, procurement, budget, human resources, and payroll through the implementation of Workday. In the interim, Propel is upgrading Transportation Reporting Accounting & Information System (TRAINS), WSDOT’s core financial system, to the modern, cloud version of CGI Advantage 4. Reporting to the Project Propel’s Integration Remediation Lead, these positions will be responsible for supporting and performing the activities of the Integration Remediation Workstream. In these roles, you will support the data management efforts of the Integration Remediation Workstream to complete the TRAINS upgrade and to support OneWa’s efforts to implement Workday. The ETL Developers will ensure that WSDOT data interfaces that are identified as in-scope have been appropriately remediated to ensure WSDOT is able to successfully continue critical business activities.
What to Expect
These positions will focus on modernizing WSDOT’s business processes, integrations and supporting WSDOT employees through the transition to the upgrade and the new statewide enterprise system, Workday.
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within these roles, the ETL Developers will:
Independently modernize data integration and processes to support migration from legacy on-premise systems to cloud-modern and SaaS vendor-based technologies.
Perform data analysis on highly complex databases.
Design, create, and maintain modern data integration routines.
Consult with and direct customers to identify emerging business reporting needs.
Perform data analysis on highly complex databases on multiple platforms and architectures to identify the correct data needed to meet the business’ reporting requirements.
Ensure that the data in the data layer is correct, complete, and timely.
Contribute to the design and implementing test plans.
Monitor ETL job status to ensure all jobs complete successfully.
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
Six (6) years of experience working in Information Technology within data management or four (4) years of experience working in Information Technology within data management and a four-year degree in computer science, mathematics, or closely related field.
Four (4) years of experience writing complex queries in SQL for reporting and data validation purposes.
Four (4) years of experience creating and maintaining highly complex ETL routines.
Experience working with Azure Data Factory.
Two (2) years of experience in designing, creating, and maintaining data layer on modern database platforms and ETL routines.
Ability to meet with customers, gather requirements and work with team members to design solutions.
Ability to clearly communicate both orally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Experience working with Mainframe systems, data sets and databases.
A Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, mathematics, or related field.

These are project, limited duration positions, anticipated to last until December 31, 2025.

In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28of the Washington Administrative Code.
This position is eligible for remote work up to 100%, per supervisor approval. This Remote work opportunity is available to residents of Washington or bordering states.
