Nature of Position
Perform routine work servicing, fueling, and cleaning various transit vehicles, such as buses, trolleys, vans, and other support vehicles. Perform various activities related to the servicing of revenue and non-revenue vehicles. Perform building maintenance/custodial and cleaning duties.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities/KSA
Clean interior of all transit vehicles using mops, brooms, cleaning agents, vacuums, and towels to clean floors, seats, windows, mirrors, steps, wheel well covers, walls, ceilings, handrails, fare box and other surfaces. Maintain cleanliness in the shop and ensure adequate shop supplies are available.
Prepare vehicle exteriors for entry into the automated washing facility; pressure washes designated areas of vehicle prior to entry; hand dries external vehicle surfaces after washing.
Vacuum tracks for securing wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices.
Remove gum, stains, and debris from seats and surfaces.
Check vehicle fluid levels; adding fluids as needed; record all fluid amounts added in accordance with established procedures.
Inspect for evidence of vehicle damage or vandalism; report problem areas to appropriate personnel.
Clean and maintain maintenance facility; sweep and mop floors, vacuum carpets, clean and sanitize toiled facilities and replenish supplies; clean and sanitize drinking fountains; empty trash receptacles.
Perform waste removal of biohazardous and toxic materials; dispose of contaminated waste per OSHA and Agency guidelines.
Remove and exchange fare box vaults and monies in accordance with Agency policies.
Inspect interior and exterior lights and lamps, flashers, mirrors, and windshield wipers are operational; replace and/or repair as needed; test replacement parts to ensure proper functioning.
Dispense gasoline and diesel fuel for all Agency vehicles; record fuel and mileage usage.
Notify mechanics of major damages or equipment failure such as tire or seat belt damage.
Drive and transport vehicles to and from various locations. Assist maintenance personnel as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Identify and use of different types of cleaning detergents, materials, tools, equipment, and methods used in the cleaning of vehicles and facilities; proper use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Identify and implement safety precautions and personal protective equipment per OSHA guidelines.
Understand basic mechanical components and preventative maintenance methods of vehicles.
Skill in operating a variety of hand and power tools used in mechanical maintenance work.
Identify biohazardous materials and apply principles and methods for proper handling and disposing.
Care and maintenance of commonly used hand and power tools.
Perform proper lubrication for all types of equipment and vehicles.
Understand, follow, and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Keep legible and accurate records.
Work as a team member and independently; effectively apply organizational and time management skills; meet deadlines and comply with Agency policies.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and six months of experience working in a service based industry which includes cleaning, sanitation, and custodial type duties. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Licenses, Certifications & Other Requirements
Must obtain and maintain the following licenses and certifications:
Commercial Driver License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements and corresponding medical certification, or ability to obtain within 180-days of employment.
First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain within 180-days of employment.
Forklift Certification, or the ability to obtain within 180-days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Vehicle maintenance and/or cleaning experience.
