The Opportunity

The Eastern Region is seeking to fill multiple Bridge Maintenance Specialist positions located in Spokane, WA. Operating a wide variety of bridge maintenance equipment and tools, these positions are responsible for the maintenance and repair of highways and highway structures to ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and commerce. They may also lead a crew in the absence of a Highway Bridge Maintenance Lead.

What to Expect
Weekends and holidays may be required to respond to non-scheduled call-out emergencies. Work alternate and emergency shifts as situations dictate. Respond to emergency situations in all weather conditions; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Work is also performed primarily outdoors, traversing rough, steep, and uneven terrain; and near high-volume/high-speed traffic.

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Bridge Maintenance Specialist 2 will:

Maintain, repair, and reconstruct bridges and structures to include deck repair, expansion joints, repair/replacement of caps, stringers, pilings, abutments, walkways, curbs, sidewalks, railings, columns, piers, and bulkheads.
Perform pavement maintenance and repair asphalt and concrete.
Maintain and repair signs, guardrail, fence, and impact attenuator installation and repair.
Track, document, and report daily work activities.
Operate Class A, B, or C highway equipment, power tools and hand tools.
Maintain roadways for open travel.
Assist in snow and ice operations.

Qualifications
These are Bridge Maintenance Specialist 2 (BMS2) positions. However, the hiring manager reserves the right to fill the position at the lower level (BMS1 depending on qualifications), providing an opportunity for an individual to gain the required experience on the job as part of a formal “in-training” plan.

To be considered at the Bridge Maintenance Specialist 1 level ($50,592 - $58,704 annually), the following are required:
One (1) year of experience performing roadway maintenance, heavy equipment operation, or equivalent.
Possession of a Class A CDL with N endorsement without airbrake restrictions or acquire within 24 months of hire.
Capable of working at heights over 60 feet.
Must be able to report in service to assigned duty station within 45 minutes of an after-hours call.

To be considered at the Bridge Maintenance Specialist 2 level ($55,872 - $64,788 annually), the following are required:
Two (2) years of experience performing roadway maintenance, heavy equipment operation, or equivalent.
Possession of a Class A CDL with N endorsement without airbrake restrictions or acquire within 12 months of hire.
Capable of working at heights over 60 feet.
Must be able to report in service to assigned duty station within 45 minutes of an after-hours call.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Possession of a valid Traffic Control/Flagging card, within 3 months of hire, with experience performing traffic control per MUTCD including planning, setting signs and cones or barrels, and flagging.
Experience with concrete, forming, operating special equipment, knowledge and experience with hand and power tools.

Rotational night shift is required for this position.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
