The Opportunity
WSDOT’s Information Technology Division (ITD) is seeking an experienced IT professional to fill a Database Administrator vacancy in Tumwater, WA. This position is part of the Data Management Services Data Resource Management Team and is responsible for the administration, maintenance of modernized, cloud hosted databases and data integration processes for the Bridge Preservation Office (BPO). As the Database Administrator, you will provide advanced skill level database administration, data integration and reporting of the department's Microsoft SQL databases, and Azure SQL Databases. Our top candidate must possess effective communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical language to a diverse audience with ease.

What to Expect
This position ensures compliance with IT Division's Service Level Agreements with WSDOT customers, and maintains open, constructive communications with IT staff and with WSDOT customers and WSDOT business partners.

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Database Administrator will:
Independently function as the database administrator for the BPO transactional system databases.
Design and execute data architectures, policies, standards and data extraction and load routines for the agency's business systems.
Provide development and implementation database support for BPO's databases and applications including BridgeWorks/WSBIS and BEISt.
Consult and provide technical support to development staff on the creation of approved data access procedures.
Independently create processes to allow WSDOT to share data between internal business systems, federal systems, and other government agencies.
Design, implement, and maintain processes to provide geospatial data.
Plan, design, construct, and maintain reports which present and deliver information derived from agency data resources.
Construct and maintain complex SQL queries to gather consistent and correct data from multiple sources.
Compose report designs based on documented requirements and business preferences, present them to clients, and conduct review sessions to identify improvements needed.
Develop complex data presentations or sets of data, i.e., dashboards and information portals that present data integrated from different sources.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, at least one the following are required:
Eight (8) years of experience working in Information Technology within data management or application development. - OR
Four (4) years of experience working in Information Technology within data management or application development AND a four-year degree in computer science/information technology, mathematics, or closely related field. - OR
Six (6) years of experience working in Information Technology within data management or application development AND a two-year degree in computer science/information technology.
In addition to one of the above, the following are also required:

Four (4) years of technical experience administering Microsoft SQL Server databases. *Experience must be recent, within the last eight (8) years.
Four (4) years of experience writing complex queries in SQL for data manipulation, storage, and reporting purposes.
Two (2) years of experience writing Extract Transform and load (ETL) packages.
Two (2) years of experience developing reports, creating data sources, reports, and security models.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

Experience working with Crystal Reports.
Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
Experience working with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
Experience using ESRI tools to create spatially enabled data for analysis
Experience using Azure application and data platforms.
A Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, mathematics, or related field.

In addition to the salary range listed, a general wage increase of 4% will be applied for all state employees on July 1, 2023.
Required experience can be gained concurrently with other required skills.

In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
