The Opportunity
WSDOT’s Northwest Region (NWR) Information Technology (IT) Department is currently seeking to fill the Assistant IT Operations Manager position located in Shoreline, WA. This position directly manages the daily operations of the IT staff and IT resources for the NWR, Urban Mobility, Access, and Mega Programs. In this role you will, assist in the strategic planning, budgeting, purchasing, and supervision of IT technical staff. The Assistant IT Operations Manager is responsible for all operational functions of IT relating to personal computers, laptops, tablets, printers, copiers, multi-function printers, software licensing, asset lifecycle management, end user technical training, security including anti-virus and patch management, audio/visual conference services, and telework implementation services. Our top candidate will have exceptional customer service skills, as this position frequently interactions with employees and customers at all levels throughout the Region.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Assistant IT Operations Manager will:

Lead staff by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing policies, processes, and procedures.
Manage and coordinate daily operation of IT support functions across Infrastructure Services, Desktop Services, Field Services and CAE support.
Assist with the development and management of IT financial objectives by tracking and forecasting operation budget needs; tracking biennial budgets; scheduling expenditures; monitoring and analyzing variances; initiating budget adjustments.
Ensure regional IT purchase requests are aligned with customer business needs, compliant with WSDOT standards, and that adequate funding is available.
Monitor required IT assets to enable the successful completion of region business functions.
Implement lifecycle management by monitoring useful life and performance of assets in order to upgrade or replace according to agency standards.
Preserve assets by ensuring disaster recovery and backup procedures are in place and information security and control structures are followed.
Provide leadership and expert consultation for large-scale projects and enterprise systems.
Ensure project schedules and deliverables are met throughout the project duration. Leads the efforts for project tasks and assigns duties to members of Infrastructure Services, Desktop Services Field Services, and CAE teams in relation to tasks.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
A Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a closely related field AND four (4) years of experience working in Information Technology; OR and equivalent combination of education and experience. (Additional experience may substitute for degree.)
Four (4) years of full-time IT work experience in varied IT disciplines such as IT policy development, network administration, server administration, telecommunications administration, systems administration, and IT project management. (Advanced education may substitute for up to three years of full-time IT work experience)
Four (4) years of experience providing technical consulting and performing installation of IT hardware and software.
Experience with written and verbal communications including presentations.
The ability to provide own reliable means of transportation.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
COMP TIA certification (A+ and/or NET+) and/or any Microsoft or Cisco Certifications.
Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification (ITIL Foundation and/or ITIL Strategist)
Four (4) years of experience providing project management for technical IT projects involving installation of IT networks, hardware, and software.
Expertise in managing technical IT and the IT components of ongoing operational projects to assure successful project outcomes while assuring sustainable IT solutions.
Effective written and oral communications appropriate to varied audiences and technical skills levels and comprehension are required for the incumbent of this position.
The ability to respond to emergency outages, sometimes during inclement weather events or other catastrophic incidents.

In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. This position offers flexible/hybrid remote work options and generally works in multiple remote/telework locations and an office/data center environment.

The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
This position may include travelling to various WSDOT sites located throughout the state. Occasional overnight travel may be necessary as well as travel for conference, training, and/or trade show attendance both within and outside of the state.
Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 357-16-197 mandates that all employees who work for executive cabinet agencies (which includes the Department of Transportation) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
