CNC Machinist / Programmer

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision metal parts; produces small batches or large quantities of metal parts; ensure products meet precise specifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•The ability to manually operate machines with and without digital read-outs including but not limited to engine lathe, vertical turret lathe (VTL), horizontal boring mill, drill press, end mill and surface grinder.
•Ability to apply Metal Spray on parts.
•Proficiency in using ID and OD micrometers, depth micrometers, dial indicators and calipers and a precision machinist level.
•Perform QA tasks utilizing an optical comparator, height gauge, granite table, hardness tester and surface gauge.
•Ability to maintain accurate records of parts machined.
•Ability to machine parts from parts drawings.
•Ability to determine correct tooling for metallurgy to be machined.
•Ability to program and operate CNC equipment using Haas controls.
•Ability to setup and machine complex and high tolerance components
•Ability to use CADCAM software to generate machining programs for CNC machines
•Work with the Engineering teams to provide crucial input on design for manufacturing
•Ability to setup and test new machines.
•Must be able to effectively train fellow technicians to operate machines for production purposes.
•Must keep work areas clear of shavings, cuttings, and miscellaneous objects.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
•Other duties and projects as assigned by management.
•Performs environmental and general housekeeping duties.
•Must be able to work weekends and holidays, when necessary.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
•High School graduate or equivalent required; technical school preferred.
•Apprenticeship program participation desirable.
•The ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the areas of assignment.
•A minimum of 5 years’ experience in machining rotating equipment parts.
•Set-up and machining to tolerance of +/- 0.0005” such as:
oCentrifugal pumps
oTurbines
oCompressors
oGear boxes (speed increasing/speed decreasing)
•Must have the ability to use Solidworks.
•Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation. Must be proficient in MS word, Excel, Power Point and use of the internet.
•Must have the ability to read, write and speak English at a level that will permit the employee to understand and communicate information in a manner that will enable the employee to perform the job duties safely and efficiently.
•Must possess at any time a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT’s auto insurance carrier.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
•The ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions and 75 pounds from the floor to the waist.
•Must be able to climb stairs, work off elevated platforms, in severe weather conditions and in confined spaces.
•Job requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping, and kneeling.
•Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including earplugs and safety glasses.
