The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Transportation Systems Technician D to keep the electrical and electronic systems of the I-90 and East Channel floating bridges maintained and repaired. This journey level position is the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and performs, leads, and directs diagnosis, maintenance, installation, and repairs. In this role, you will also be responsible for testing of technical monitoring and control systems and ensuring the electrical and electronic systems for the bridges are operating properly. The individual in this role, must have a strong understanding of electrical code and theory. This bridge is critical to the local highway systems and business communities. The top candidates will conduct all electrical operations safely and effectively. Public safety and the safety of fellow employees is a high priority and must be considered in every decision and activity affecting the highway facilities.

This position can be filled at the Transportation Systems Technician A, B, C or D level, depending on qualifications. The qualifications for each level are listed under the minimum qualifications section. We encourage you to apply if you meet any of these levels.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Transportation Systems Technician D will:
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of electrical and electronic systems associated with I-90 Floating Bridges and East Channel Bridges.
Perform regular inspection and testing of voltages, electrical connections, and grounding systems.
Maintain and troubleshoot a Programmable Logic Controller system on the bridge consisting of electronic components.
Ensure strict adherence to National Electrical Code (NEC) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC) electrical installation standards and specifications.
Plan preventive maintenance and repair tasks.
Read, interpret, and work with complex electrical drawings, plans, manuals, and other technical documents within the electrical industry.
Perform duties near live traffic during the day and night, either in a bucket truck, man basket or other types of lifts, at heights more than 100 feet.
Operate Class A, B, or C equipment for bridge operations.
Design and setup traffic control for emergency operations, as well as full road or bridge closures.
Demonstrate a commitment to the department's safety program by adhering to safety policies and procedures daily and attending safety meetings, training, and other courses.

Qualifications
For all TST levels:
Valid Driver’s License

Transportation Systems Technician D:
High School Graduation or GED
Six (6) years of experience in the electrical/electronic field

Transportation Systems Technician C:
High School Graduation or GED
Four (4) years of experience in the electrical/electronic field

Transportation Systems Technician B:
High School Graduation or GED
Three (3) years of experience in the electrical/electronic field

Transportation Systems Technician A:
High School Graduation or GED

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Possession of an Electrical License
Four (4) years’ experience in the electrical field.
Class B CDL, N tank endorsement, without restrictions E for no manual transmission and L for air brake restriction, or ability to get one within 6 months of employment.

The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 357-16-197 mandates that all employees who work for executive cabinet agencies (which includes the Department of Transportation) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
