Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state. The Opportunity
WSDOT is eager to hire a Secretary Senior to help support WSDOT’s mission. This position is critical in fostering a respectful and healthy work environment with focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. As the Secretary Senior, this position provides a variety of administrative support to the Northwest Region (NWR) Materials Lab which is integral to the design and construction of WSDOT projects across the region. The successful candidate appointed to this unique position will serve a vital role in support of WSDOT’s mission to provide safe, reliable, and cost effective transportation options to improve communities and economic vitality.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Secretary Senior will:
Ensure that work is completed accurately and within designated timelines and schedules.
Conduct front office procedures and coordinate clerical functions within the NWR Materials Lab office.
Make travel arrangements for NWR Materials Lab employees, including creating itineraries and making hotel and rental car reservations.
Assist the region’s compliance with records management, retention, and destruction policies.
Conduct and assist with timekeeping, accurately applying rules related to state policies, collective bargaining agreements, and internal controls.
Assist NWR Materials Lab staff with purchasing. Review and reconcile credit card purchases through the Purchasing Card Management System (PCMS) on a weekly basis to verify transactions.

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
High School Diploma or GED
Two (2) years of increasingly responsible office experience requiring keyboarding or typing.
Knowledge of clerical functions and familiarity with electronic filing systems.
Proficient computer skills, including using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, the Internet, and web-based applications.
Knowledge of effective customer service principles, including professional and courteous communication and etiquette.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Previous experience doing clerical, timekeeping, and/or customer service work.
Knowledge of Washington State retention, destruction, and archival processes.
Previous experience with WSDOT purchasing procedures.
Familiarity with scanning, indexing, and filing naming conventions.

Important Notes
Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 357-16-197 mandates that all employees who work for executive cabinet agencies (which includes the Department of Transportation) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Compliance with this mandate is a condition of employment with WSDOT. This position offers flexible/hybrid work options
The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
