Job Description:
ROLE SUMMARY
The Insurance Coordinator is responsible for ensuring registration information accurately reflects clinical order, submitting clinical information to payer in timely manner, and utilization requirements.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviews registration status and ensures this accurately reflects the clinical order placed by the Provider.
Receives requests and submits payer specific documents required for accurate level of care for billing purposes.
Ascertains accurate and timely payer responses for payment and coordinates clinical review with the Utilization Management team for any discrepancies.
Maintains competency on all computer systems.
Effectively handles negative situations appropriately and with effective follow-up.
Provides knowledgeable and professional communication with all contacts.
Answers the telephone according to department standards and directs calls appropriately.
May cross-train in other areas within the department when necessary.
Works closely with Patient Access staff regarding notification to payers and proactively submitting clinical data required for review and appropriate payment.
Effectively communicates with Physicians or other providers regarding missing, incomplete or inaccurate documentation.
Works closely with Utilization Management RN’s regarding appropriate level of care.
Contacts outside Physicians, providers or clinics regarding any missing documentation required by the payer in a timely manner.
Collaborates with the Physician Advisor regarding up front denials from payers to facilitate peer to peer review.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Experience: Knowledge of medical terminology required. Previous experience in medical billing or payer coverage preferred.
