The Opportunity
WSDOT Northwest Region (NWR) is currently seeking an Electrical, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Assets Assistant Maintenance Superintendent in Seattle, WA. This position is the maintenance professional assistant to the NWR Electrical, ITS and Assets Superintendent/Program Administrator, acting in direction from, in coordination with, and in lieu of the Administrator: As with the Administrator position, it is a unique & essential technical expert management position within the NWR Traffic organization. The incumbent leads and/or assists with leading direction and management of maintenance of all electrical/electronic systems on NWR highways, as well as administration of the Region Signals stores services. The incumbent has lead responsibility for a subset of these functions, arid in the absence of the NWR Signals Superintendent, is directly responsible for all organization functions.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Electrical, ITS & Assets Assistant Maintenance Superintendent will:

Direct and/or assist with direction and management of maintenance of all electrical/electronic systems on NWR highways, as well as administration of the Region Signals stores services.
Assist with managing the largest Region Electrical/Electronic Maintenance Program in the state, responsible for approximately 50% of the statewide field inventory.
Manage/lead a large staff of maintenance professionals, including responsibility for training, mentorship, application of corrective action, ensuring work requirements resultant from L&l claims and/or accommodation, etc.
Administer purchasing, procurement, inventory of supplies & materials for the largest Stores facility in the state.
Provide key input and/or leads development of local agency agreements.
Provide maintenance support to WSDOT Ferries {terminal areas} and Washington State Patrol (weigh-in motion electronic signs).
Assist with management of all aspects of personnel direction decisions. organization priorities. approvals of equipment/ staff utilization for and organization of approximately 55 technical maintenance specialists, with duty stations from a primary Seattle office or 5 other satellite offices.
Assist the Program Administrator with evaluating and determining actions to be taken on safety & security of Signals Maintenance office sites, including securing sites for personnel, vehicles, equipment & material.
Authorize and approve purchases.
Provide key input & direction on all phases of projects, scope, design, construction, and final inspection approval of electrical & electronic systems within all relevant NWR & Mega Programs projects.
Provide critical input to the Program Administrator & assist with direction for department policies and procedures of specialized maintenance/operations activities.
Direct and respond in a timely/professional manner to inquiries and complaints from the Public, other local & regional agencies, insurance companies, and legal firms.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Valid driver’s license
Six (6) years journey level experience in electrical/electronic maintenance and or traffic signal, lighting, and ITS maintenance- Journey level is defined as a worker who has obtained the skills and abilities to meet the objectives of the positions without supervision.
Three (3) years in a leadership role in the electrical/electronic industry.
ELO1, EL07 or electronics certification and/or degree
Expert job-relevant knowledge of MUTCD, NEC, NSEC, agency Standard Plans & Specifications.
Expert job-relevant knowledge of applicable RCW's, WAC's, OSHA, and WISHA statutes.
Working knowledge of WSDOT policies & procedures, including highway construction & maintenance practices
Understanding leadership competencies, including communicating, organizational planning, budget/expenditure control, mentoring, hiring, corrective action, and disputes resolution
Expert job-relevant experience reviewing and interpreting roadway electrical and electronic system contract plans.
Ability to make field assessments including on foot around high-speed highway traffic at times.
Available to take calls and manage emergencies 24/7
Familiar with safety rules and regulations associated with Electrical, Electronic & Communications systems work.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Trade school education in electrical and/or electronics systems (roadway)
NIMS/ICS training, beginning with lCS100, lCS200, ICS700.
Commercial driver's license class A without airbrake restrictions
Experience with:
Constructing and/or maintaining extensive fiberoptic networks
Constructing and/or maintaining high voltage power systems & backup power systems
Maintaining roadway ITS devices/systems, and other transportation-related electronic systems, programmable controllers & servers, traffic signal systems.
Managing/supervising staff covered under union contract; 10 or more staff.

In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
