Job Description:
Catalent Pharma Solutions in Kansas City, MO is hiring a Controls Engineer. The Controls Engineer supports both clinical and commercial operations including capital requests, equipment onboarding/qualification, process qualification, monitoring and optimizing process/equipment using lean six sigma (or equivalent), and project management. This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Process Engineering and Maintenance.

This is a full-time role position: Monday – Friday, days.

Catalent’s Kansas City facility is home to our Oral & Specialty Drug Delivery, Biologics Analytical Services and Clinical Supply Services businesses. The site provides a range of integrated services for oral solid dosage forms, from formulation development and analytical testing to clinical and commercial-scale manufacture. The Kansas City facility is a Center-of-Excellence for our Biologics Analytical Services business. Our talented team has over 25 years of experience providing analytical services for stand-alone and integrated biologics projects.

The Role

Responsible for ensuring Safety, Quality, Delivery and Costs are managed to meet project requirements.
Develop User Requirement Specifications for more advanced new equipment or modification of current equipment.
Successfully execute medium sized Capital projects (with a focus on equipment controls projects) through all phases including developing budget and scope, authoring required documents and forms for approval, purchasing equipment, overseeing installation of equipment and modifications of facilities, commissioning of equipment and closing out of project.
Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for more advanced equipment.
Author Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions for more advanced equipment operation.
Determine process capabilities and bottlenecks and implement improvements which have direct impact on efficiency.
Facilitate inclusion of all new or modified equipment into the site Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program.
Lead risk assessments for safety hazards on equipment and work with EH&S personnel to design appropriate mitigation of hazards.
Support the on-going enhancement and optimization of manufacturing process systems by using a cGMP change management and software development lifecycle approach.
Take a supporting role with quality assurance and validation groups to assess validation requirements for equipment.

The Candidate

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or relevant science required with 3 - 10 years of experience working with control systems, preferably in the Pharmaceutical or related manufacturing industry.
Experience writing and executing validation protocols and Data Historian.
Clear understanding of related SOPs and cGMPs, as necessary, to accomplish assigned projects.
Understands advanced machine functionality (e.g. PLC’s, servo motors, controls, pneumatic function)
Experienced in PLC programming in ladder logic, sequential function, structured text, or scripts
Experienced in programming operator interfaces. Ability to troubleshoot simple to complex hardware and software problems
Knowledge of pneumatic control systems and components
Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift 0-15 pounds;
