Machining a wide variety of different parts, Smallest is 1 in x 1in x .25 in segments or largest 10 in x 60 in. The product is pistons, cylinders, in caps, etc.
The tolerances can be as tight as .0002 of an inch. The metal is primarily stainless and mild steel, with a small amount of titanium and aluminum. There are various interfaces and machine controls throughout the 70 different CNC machines, but the G code language is fairly universal. They also use a DNC control software called Predator.
Individuals will be running a specific machine, but they have different positions out on the shop.
Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, hobs, and precision grinders to make aerospace parts to sketch.
Uses a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling. Machines are both manual and numerically controlled.
Will monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or VIP.
Prepares machine/machines for production by inspecting parts for malfunctions, troubleshooting malfunctions when possible, and calling for repairs if necessary.
Regulates machining by utilizing machine instrumentation knowledge; setting and adjusting controls.
Meets production deadlines by following manufacturing schedule and procedures and resolving production problems when they arise.
