Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) was founded as a 501(c) (3) non-profit medical institution in 2005 aimed at increasing access to health care in medically underserved areas of the Pacific Northwest.

The University currently offers the degrees of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Master of Arts in Medical Science enrolling over 550 students annually with plans to develop other programs and/or colleges. Interprofessional education partnerships with other universities adds another 100 students to the population. The campus includes 300 employees with academic programming spread over a five state region.

PNWU is located in Yakima, WA, a city of approximately 95,000 located in the south central part of the state near the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in a major agricultural and outdoor recreation region. It is approximately 140 miles from Seattle, 170 miles from Portland, and 200 miles from Spokane. The Yakima Valley is a wonderful place to live, work and play.

General Summary:
The Accounts Payable Specialist processes payables for all PNWU departments in a fast-paced environment with ongoing growth. Payables types include, but are not limited to: invoices, statements, credit cards, check requests, travel and expense reimbursement requests, and other specialized payment batches. May support other accounting activities of the Finance department. The Accounts Payable Specialist reports to the Assistant Controller – Financial Operations in the Finance department.

Essential Job Functions:
· Audits all payables and reconciles with required documentation. Accurately processes payables, and distributes to appropriate cost centers and general ledger codes, and maintains a universal vendor filing system
· Works with vendors and multiple departments to resolve issues. Provides training and customer service to all PNWU employees on Accounts Payable policies, procedures, and forms
· Processes checks and electronic funds transfers, maintains daily deposit log & processes weekly bank deposits.
· Sets up and maintains vendor files; collects W-9 forms and reconciles transactions for 1099 reporting. Assist the Accounts Payable lead with producing and filing annual IRS 1099 forms
· Utilizes knowledge of purchasing, purchase order, and capital equipment purchasing processes; collaborates with PNWU Purchasing department; coordinates purchase order and capital equipment review and tracking processes
· Reconciles and reviews travel and expense reimbursements for accuracy; troubleshoots and solves discrepancies
· Performs month end closing processes for Accounts Payable i.e. generating reports and accruals; identifies prepaid items, capital purchases and grant purchases. Maintains individual and detail summary spreadsheets
· Understands accreditation standards and expectations specific to the department and adheres to policies and procedures to meet or exceed such standards
· Conducts self appropriately and consistently in accordance with the philosophy and mission of PNWU
· Other duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements
Education:
• Required: High School Diploma or GED
• Preferred: Two years college or equivalent work experience

Experience:
• Required: One to two years of related experience. Additional education may be substituted for years of work experience.
