Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY The HVAC Technician performs a wide variety of work involving the maintenance, repair, installation and improvement of the District’s heating, ventilating, air conditioning and control systems. The work involves mechanical, electrical and hydronic repair tasks at all of the District owned and leased facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Respond to trouble calls for HVAC service requests
Accomplish work orders assigned for area of HVAC repair and maintain work order record of all work performed
Maintain hydronic hot water and steam heating and cooking systems
Maintain and repair electric and gas fired commercial heating systems
Maintain and repair heat pump and air conditioning systems
Maintain and repair circulation pumps, valves, and controls
Maintain, operate, and adjust pneumatic, electronic, and direct digital control systems
Maintain records, drawings, and schematics of equipment
Work safely around children and adults; know and follow safety and health regulations and related District guidelines
Identify, repair and perform preventative maintenance on fire protection devices that effect HVAC controls and systems. Examples would be duct smoke detectors and dampeners.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consult with building administrators and staff members to negotiate HVAC maintenance schedules and plans
Ensure the District vehicle has an inventory of repair/replacement parts and equipment
Report safety concerns to appropriate supervisor

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Journeyman level experience in the HVAC field

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrate a history of positive evaluations
Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and ability to troubleshoot and successfully repair all of the following systems or components: Boilers both gas and oil, flame control systems, gas fired furnaces, electric heating equipment, heat pumps, air conditioning systems, hydronic pumps and water circulation systems, motors and controls, pneumatic, and electronic building control systems and steam distribution systems in commercial kitchens.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Five years commercial experience working in the field

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Washington State Driver’s License
Criminal background check
Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis

KNOWLEDGE OF:
A wide variety of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems
Hand and power tools necessary to perform job duties and responsibilities
Fire alarm systems on HVAC controls, dampers, and devices

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit, stand and walk, stoop, bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee is frequently required to bend at waist, squat, kneel, climb stairs/ladder, lift and reach overhead, crawl, and lift/carry and use hands for fine manipulation. The employee must constantly lift/carry up to 10 lbs.; frequently lift/carry up to 35 lbs.; occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 50 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum force of 400 lbs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor and outdoor conditions and may be exposed to inclement weather. This position regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally is exposed to high noise levels. This position requires operating dangerous mechanical systems and/or machines. This position may also be exposed to dangerous working conditions including but not limited to: working on high voltage electricity, working at heights, working in confined spaces, working around toxic chemicals, working around asbestos. The employee is required to travel to various locations within the District. Nights and Weekends may be required occasionally to meet job demands.

WORK SCHEDULE
This position typically works, 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 260 days per year

This position reports to, and is evaluated Maintenance and Operations Manager

REPRESENTATION
International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE)

LEVEL OF COMPENSATION
Level N on the IUOE Salary Schedule. This position includes the following benefits prorated based on FTE – Medical, dental vision; sick and vacation leave; life insurance; professional development dollars; retirement.
