The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to fill an Equipment Technician Lead vacancy in Spokane, WA. As an Equipment Technician Lead, this position inspects, diagnoses, and makes major and minor repairs, and performs preventative maintenance on all types of equipment used in highway maintenance and heavy and industrial/commercial equipment. The individual in this role will, perform emergency repairs outside the shop and assist technicians in repairs. We are seeking a responsible, timely, and safety minded team player to fill this position.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Equipment Technician Lead will:

Lead, plan, schedule, and perform preventative maintenance, along with all equipment repair tasks for our equipment fleet & fuel sites.
Respond to routine & emergency equipment related situations within WSDOT agency guidelines.
Operate shop equipment such as: welders, drill press, grinder, press, hoist, air tools, forklifts, saws, computerized diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and jacks for the purpose of repairing equipment, designing, and fabricating specialty parts or accessories.
Ensure that all WSDOT Equipment is properly maintained, repaired.
Proficiently utilize M5/Fleet Equipment Management System for various shop management.
Order appropriate PM and repair parts for our equipment.
Handle proper storage & disposal of TEF generated waste/hazardous waste.
Ensure that Main Shop equipment repair parts purchases are completed in compliance of WSDOT agency’s purchasing rules & regulations.
Organize and clean shop, parts rooms, shop parking areas & yard on a regular basis; ensuring all areas are safe and orderly.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
A high school diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience as a journey-level mechanic maintaining and repairing heavy-duty equipment, OR journey-level standing as a heavy equipment mechanic, demonstrated by completion of a recognized apprenticeship, OR by journey-level standing with a recognized labor union.
Experience using M5 Fleet Equipment Management software or equivalent electronic maintenance management system.
Experience operating power and hand shop tools/equipment.
Experience in communicating professionally to multiple audiences, both orally and in writing.
Experience providing outstanding customer service.
Experience adhering to safety policies and diligence in performing work in a safe manner.
Experience in working independently and prioritizing workload, with the ability to handle multiple assignments.
Ability to respond to emergency callouts 24 hours a day, seven days a week
Ability to relocate tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds from one location to another in safe manner.
Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with “N” and Air Brake endorsements, no automatic transmission restriction, and DOT Medical Certification OR the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with “N” and Air Brake endorsements within 12 months of hire date (WSDOT will assist in training for this licensing requirement).


It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications (Automotive and/or Heavy truck).
Associate of Applied Science (AA) degree or above in automotive or Heavy equipment technology or other equivalent accredited education in a similar or related field of study.
Professional /Trade school certificates pertaining to light or heavy automotive, heavy equipment or fleet management.
Experience leading and/or supervising crews, providing clear direction, and making good decisions in stressful conditions.

In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements.
