Pay Range: $23.33 - $29.56 per hour (B21 Step 1-14)
Hiring Range: $23.33 - $23.76 per hour (B21 Step 1-2)

There is one extra help position with the Yakima County Technology Services Department. This position performs a variety of routine technical activities involving the installation, configuration, maintenance and repair of personal computer equipment, software, peripherals and telephones; consults on software problems and repairs operating system problems; receives, logs, monitors and responds to requests for service; and provides technical advice and assistance to personal computer users. This position also requires working at the help desk to troubleshoot problems and create trouble tickets for second level support staff.
This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies that occur within 90 days of the closing of this position. (This excludes Yakima County Sheriff's Office and Department of Corrections)

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:
Inspects for damage, delivers to users and sets up or installs computer systems, components and related software; unpacks equipment and software boxes; attaches monitors and CPU’s; configures printers and logon set ups; and installs new software.
Receives, logs, monitors and responds to “help desk” calls from users reporting service problems or a need for service.
Diagnoses and fixes system hardware, software and user/operator problems.
Provides technical advice and assistance to users, in person or on the phone, regarding the use of personal computers, software and peripheral equipment.
Recommends and/or takes corrective action after troubleshooting reported problems.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education:
Associate Degree or two-year technical certificate AND two (2) years computer related experience OR any combination of experience or training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Successful completion of a course in Telecommunications or Computer Support from Perry Technical Institute will be accepted as a comparable to Associate degree or two-year technical certificate from any other accredited institution.

Required:
Successful completion of a criminal background investigation.
Successful completion of a general employment verification.

Equipment Used:
Telephone, Copy Machine, Fax Machine, Voice Mail, Computer, Computer hand tools; Software such as Microsoft Word/Excel/Access; report printer; shredder.

Working Conditions:

This position is rated as Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

Environment: moving/mechanical parts and potential risk of electrical shock.

Physical Demands: lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, fingering, crawling, crouching, kneeling, hearing, talking, visual acuity, stooping, mobility, grasping, repetitive motions, and may be required to install computers in tight quarters.

Intellectual Demands: confidentiality, and ability to articulate and communicate information in conversations.

Knowledge:
Computer hardware and software programs including Microsoft operating systems and applications;
Configurations and peripherals used including printers and modems;
Operating systems and applications software typically used with personal computers;
Hardware and software troubleshooting techniques;
Customer service techniques; and,
Phone etiquette.
Skills (and abilities):
Troubleshooting computer hardware and software problems
Setting up PC hardware and peripherals
Installing and configuring PC software
Installing voice communication systems
Time management
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff at all organizational levels and with the public; and,
Oral and written communication sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give instruction and receive work direction.
