Function:
Under direct supervision as assigned, the Control Systems Technician (CST) I performs maintenance and support for process control hardware and software applications. The CST I is responsible for analysis, design, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, modification, and upgrade of control system hardware and peripherals.
Series Concept: The CST I is first in the journey-level Control Systems Technician classification series, which includes the CST Apprentice, CST I, CST II, Lead CST, and Senior Lead CST. CST I’s are skilled in Control Systems, Instrumentation/ Electrical system operations and maintenance, but require less experience and certifications than the higher classifications.

Essential Functions: Responsible for performing skilled work in the support and maintenance of control system computers, legacy controllers, process monitoring instrumentation, and associated wiring and/or communications links.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
•Provide skilled maintenance and technical support for the utility’s wastewater collections, processing, and reclamation control systems;
•Install, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose, modify as needed, repair, develop, and update:
o Utility control systems (computer, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic);
o Control equipment including instrumentation, transducers, timers, switches, sensors, transmitters, monitors, recorders, detectors, flow meters, signal conditioners, HMIs annunciators, and controllers;
o Instrumentation and related electrical systems, including process control instrumentation systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motor controls, and telemetry systems;
o PLC-based control systems; and
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA) applications;
• Determine priorities and troubleshoot emergency situations related to equipment failure to minimize process downtime.

Experience & Education: Three years’ experience in electrical and/or instrumentation repair and maintenance required. Two years’ experience in operating computer-based process control systems is required. Knowledge of Valmet, Device-Net, or RS VUE Controls Systems desired but not required. Education in a closely related field may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Additional education in Wastewater Treatment, Chemistry, Biology, and/or Physical Science is desired but not required.

Additional Requirements: Must possess a valid Driver’s License. Must participate in LOTT’s Health and Safety Program.
