JOB TITLE: Technology Field Technician

REPORTS TO: IT Coordinator

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Technology Field Technician is responsible for maintaining District owned laptops, desktops, tablets and phones. The Technology Field Technician is responsible for installing hardware and guiding users through the process of installing software when necessary. The Technology Field Technician will split time acting as a dispatcher on the District’s IT HelpDeck line, remotely addressing IT related issues and traveling to buildings to fix problems as necessary. The Technology Field Technician creates Screen Casting solutions for common IT issues and publishes them to the District’s website. The Technology Field Technician will assist in the day-to-day operation of District computer management servers and assist or manage one or more of the specialty areas under the IT department control (VoIP, Web Help Desk, JAMF, Security Cameras, Access Control, Virtualized Computing, Google Administration, Informacast, Departmental Website, Cisco Networking Platform ISE, DNA, and WLC).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*:

Set up, install, troubleshoot and maintain District computer systems, printers and other peripherals and related software.
Provide support to staff via Help Desk management system or on the phone.
Assist in maintaining network hardware.
Provide basic training on the care and operation of District computer equipment as needed.
Perform basic administration tasks on user accounts i.e. password resets.
Ensure network integrity and security.
Provide support to the IT department by being able to backup/restore files on the network, shutdown or reboot serves as needed.
Performs advanced troubleshooting steps beyond layer one (physical) such as parsing log files and interpreting error messages on District computers and servers.
Other duties as assigned.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

May serve on District level committees.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to IT Coordinator. Interacts regularly with various administrators, support staff, and other District employees. Contacts with individuals outside of the District include frequent contact with various vendors of computer and telephone equipment and software.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The daily work is performed in an office setting and at various sites within the District. The job incumbent is often required to: sit for prolonged periods; lift or carry heavy objects (up to 60 pounds); be exposed to computer display terminals for prolonged periods; provide excellent customer service. The incumbent is sometimes required to: attend evening meetings or activities; stand for prolonged periods; and deal with distraught, or angry individuals; meet externally imposed and inflexible deadlines; may need to work long hours beyond the normal work day as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful job incumbents will demonstrate a level of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed below.

Education and Experience
High School Diploma required.
Associates Degree in a related technical field or equivalent training and or experience
preferred.
Experience working in an academic institution preferred
A+ Certification or equivalent training

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of desktop system hardware and software.
Demonstrated knowledge of layer one troubleshooting skills for desktop hardware and
peripheral equipment
Ability to learn new systems and technology
Basic knowledge of principles and practices of wired and wireless networks
Willingness to research and adopt more efficient ways to perform duties while maintaining
current technology skills
Working knowledge of Google Apps
Extensive knowledge of OS X and iOS
Operate in coordination with colleagues
Promote a positive image of the District and IT Department at all times.

Licenses/Special Requirements
Valid Washington State Driver’s license is required for travel between district sites.
Social Security Card.
WSP/FBI fingerprint/background clearance.
