JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Communications Technician
Department: O & M
Reports To: Communications Supervisor
Pay Range: Group 2B
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Union: Yes

SUMMARY:

To install, repair, and maintain radios, data alarm systems, SCADA data systems and all other electronic equipment that comes under the responsibility of the Communications Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

• Working under the supervision of the communications supervisor, the incumbent installs, repairs and maintains electronic equipment, voice and data networks.
• Bench repair work on 2-way radios and knowledge of radio service monitor, oscilloscope, frequency counter, spectrum analyzer, RF power meter, digital mustimeter and computers running special diagnostic software
• Responds to emergency calls for repairs and service
• Knowledge of application phase regarding FCC licensing and other FCC issues.
• Experience in tower climbing (55 ft) and antenna + coaxial work.
• Ability to program and troubleshoot process logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, and other electronic control equipment is desirable.
• Performs other duties as may be required by Communications Department, Irrigation Districts and the Hydroelectric Power Authority

Education/Experience:

• High School diploma or GED (required)
• Associates degree or other formal training in electronics technology, telecommunications technology or a related field Extensive experience in electronics or telecommunications technology may be considered as substitution for formal training
• FCC General Radio Telephone Operator’s License
• Washington State driver’s license (required)


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Must possess strong interpersonal skills and a strong commitment to customer service.
• Ability to work within a team.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret service manuals
• Ability to solve practical problems and troubleshoot systems
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
• Knowledge of basic computer skills

This position may expose the incumbent to environmental conditions found both indoors and outdoors.

• May be exposed to hazards such as moving parts, rotating blades, electrical current, etc.

COMPENSATION:

Wage: Hourly rate

Step 1 - $31.6302 (Effective 05/10/22)
Step 2 - $32.7019
Step 3 - $33.7736
Step 4 - $34.8576

This is a full-time position). Hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Saturday hours may be required during the water season and at other times as necessary for the operation of the District. Incumbent will be required to be on-call on nights and weekends at times during the irrigation season. Travel outside the District may be required to pick up mechanical parts or equipment, to attend conferences and/or trainings. Expenses will be reimbursed for official District travel.

The Communications Technician position is classified as a bargaining unit position and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (See Section II.d of the Personnel Practices and Procedures Manual).
