The City of Sacramento Department of Utilities (DOU) seeks a Process Control Systems Specialist for the Electrical, Instrumentation, and SCADA section. The Ideal candidate will have a strong background working with industrial control network communications, process control systems, and data bases used for automating and monitoring industrial equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience securing critical infrastructure assets within an operational technology environment, understand how to limit risk from cybersecurity perspective. Experience programming and troubleshooting software and hardware for human machine interface applications, programmable logic controllers, as well as the instrumentation and electrical components integral to these process systems.
Under general supervision, performs duties involved in the planning, programming, designing, maintaining, and repairing control apparatus, data logging and display equipment, communications systems, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) software and hardware equipment to support operations of the City's water and wastewater facilities; develops and designs improvements to control systems; plans, coordinates, and implements a comprehensive control system installation, maintenance, and repair program; provides recommendations, support, and assistance to the supervisor and engineering and operation staff; and performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a single classification and a full journey-level classification. The Process Control Systems Specialist is responsible for performing specialized functions in the development, maintenance, and repair of the City's water and wastewater facility control systems. This class is distinguished from general information technology support classifications by the specialized and technical expertise related to process control systems, specifically SCADA.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering, computer science, information systems, or a related field.
AND
Experience:
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in an industrial environment,
programming, maintaining, installing, troubleshooting, and repairing SCADA, PLC's,
and telemetry systems.
Substitution:
Additional related experience may substitute for education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
