ROLE SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care within the scope of their certification while assisting the provider as needed.



ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Rooms patient, takes vital signs, identifies chief complaint and gathers patient’s medical history.
Recognizes and participates in clinical emergencies as needed.
Provides basic patient education and distributes educational materials as appropriate.
Instructs patient prior to exams per information from provider.
Performs immunizations as instructed by provider.
Processes requests for patient medication refills as defined in refill protocol.
Explains discharge or follow-up instructions.
Cleans and prepares room for next patient, i.e. discards trash and puts away supplies.
Continuously utilizes infection control and blood-borne pathogen best practices.
Removes staples/stitches when needed.
Places films on viewing box when needed.
Assists other providers as requested.
Maintains awareness of changes in protocols/procedures of the department.
Maintains productivity and clinical flow efficiently during working hours.
Utilizes equipment and supplies adequately and notifies supervisor of malfunctioning equipment and low inventory.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.

Experience: One year of Medical Assisting experience preferred.

Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Washington State (DOH) Medical Assistant – Certified licensure required. American Heart Association BLS required.
