Job Description:
Position Description: The Maintenance Technician performs repair service and preventive maintenance activities to keep site production and operations operating at maximum availability and efficiency. Responsible for creating and maintaining accurate maintenance records, and a clean organized work area. Responsible for accurately and consistently following established procedures, and for personal safety performance.



Major Areas of Responsibility



Performs scheduled and breakdown minor and major repairs on buildings, equipment, utilities, and plant systems. Fabricate and assemble new equipment as necessary.
Personal safety, safety of work areas, and contribution to safety of others is imperative.
Performs preventive maintenance procedures on building, production, and site mechanical and electrical equipment. Maintains up to date records and documentation of PMs.
Performs and documents inspections according to established schedules.
Effectively completes routine and non-routine tasks as necessary including limited custodial, building repair, and snow removal work.
Proper storage and handling of solvents, oils, and hazardous materials.
Completes, and manages written and computer based records, including maintenance and operating procedures as directed and scheduled.
Determines, and orders parts, supplies, and materials from external vendors as necessary.
Maintains records and documentation to complete, up-to-date status including equipment files, engineering drawings, and computer records.
Must have ability and willingness to work extended hours, call ins and/or weekend times to meet scheduled or unplanned operating requirements, often on short notice.


Education and Experience



Minimum High School graduate education, GED, or equivalent required.
Aptitude for general mathematics including basic arithmetic and computation is required.
Additional, College level, Technical School education or certificate strongly preferred.
Strong mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills required. Skilled use of hand and power tools is required. Root cause analysis training and skills strongly preferred.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to follow specific written or oral instructions.
Work Order System/ Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience is strongly preferred, including but not limited to documentation of work completed, planning & scheduling work, parts usage, time tracking, meter reading, asset tracking.
Prior forklift operating experience is required, certification is preferred.
Valid license to operate motor vehicle in the State of Washington is required.
Basic pipefitting experience required.
Welding experience on low carbon and stainless steel in industrial environment is preferred. Sanitary (Food Grade) welding experience strongly preferred. AWS certification or radiographic interpreter training preferred.
Lock Out Tag Out experience required.
Basic electrical and wiring knowledge and experience is required. Electrical and instrumentation wiring, troubleshooting, repair; calibration, configuration, and installation experience is preferred. Skills and experience with both control circuit and 3 phase power circuits for motors up to 480 volts preferred. Certified journey level or specialty level training preferred.
Experience with operating, calibrating, and maintaining plant utility systems – medium pressure steam boiler, deaerator, and condensate return systems, air compressors, cooling water, hydraulics, pneumatics, refrigeration, reverse osmosis – deionization – softening water systems, emergency pressure venting, and vacuum systems is preferred.
Machining and milling experience and basic carpentry skills are preferred.
Knowledge of spare parts inventory analysis and management is preferred.
Laser shaft alignment, lubrication evaluation, vibration analysis, thermography, and other preventive maintenance experience are preferred.
General computer proficiency is required. Demonstrable competence with MS Office products and email is strongly preferred.
Experience with operating, configuring, and maintaining closed loop controls, PLCs, and distributed control systems is preferred.
Proficiency in spoken and written English language is required. Ability to read and understand instructions and correspondence and to present information in one-on-one and small group situations is required. Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) abilities are preferred.


Position Levels



There are two distinct levels within the Maintenance Technician position with increasing responsibility assigned to the higher level. To perform these positions successfully, an individual must be able to perform each function and others as assigned satisfactorily. A Maintenance Technician assigned to either job level may be responsible for tasks and duties that otherwise would be assigned to another maintenance person or position level. A Maintenance Technician may be assigned tasks and duties that would otherwise be assigned to Production Operators if necessary.



Level 2: Advanced Maintenance Technician



Job Requirements:
Demonstrate full proficiency in Level 1 job requirements (general maintenance) and completely understands all job responsibilities.
Demonstrated ability to work safely and communicate effectively.
Demonstrated successful work practices and attitude.
Fully proven knowledge of plant equipment, maintenance, special procedures, and safety practices.
Demonstrated systems thinking and ability to understand the big picture and troubleshoot in that context.
Accurately follow specific instructions in plant procedures and forms for previous and future assignments.
Follows safety procedures, uses appropriate personal protective safety equipment.
Lead and deliver safety and other specific training to other employees on maintenance, operating, and equipment practices.
Competency and certification to operate forklifts, man lifts, and other mobile equipment.
Fully capable to work and manage multiple priorities at the same time.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and understand basic drawings and schematics.
Fully understands and follows safety, regulatory and operating requirements.
Demonstrated proficiency to complete, follow, and approve work requiring in-plant permits, ie hot work, confined space, elevated work, non-routine tasks, etc.
Follows safety procedures, uses appropriate personal protective safety equipment.
Works independently with minimal direction. Ability to lead or train other employees.
Successfully completes additional training for added work assignments.
Maintain safe, clean, organized work areas. Performs general cleaning activities.
Work and manage multiple priorities at the same time.
Performs high responsibility maintenance, operating, and safety procedures.
Continues to train for more complicated and unique equipment, and tasks.
Other duties and special assignments as assigned by supervision.
Approved and successfully certified for level 2 Maintenance Technician.
Capable of exercising supervision of contractors and outside service vendors.
Fully capable of providing vacation relief for Maintenance Supervisor.
